“The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” executive producer Julie Plec has signed a new multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.

Under the agreement, Plec will continue to develop new original programming for the studio via her My So-Called Company production shingle. Plec has been based at Warner Bros. since 2009, when she co-developed supernatural drama “The Vampire Diaries.” The series, on which Plec was showrunner, ran for eight seasons on the CW.

Plec will continue to serve as showrunner on the upcoming fifth and final season of the CW’s “The Originals,” a “Vampire Diaries” spinoff that Plec developed. While at Warner Bros., Plec also developed and exec produced “Containment” and “The Tomorrow People,” both for CW.

Kat Graham has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming action thriller “How It Ends,” also starring Forest Whitaker and Theo James.

The film follows James as Will, a young man desperate to get home to his pregnant wife Samantha (Graham) after an apocalyptic event turns roads to mayhem. Forest Whitaker plays Tom, Samantha’s domineering father. Samantha, a loving wife, encourages Will to stand up to Tom, not realizing that later on they’ll have to work together to find her.

Graham is best known for her role as Bonnie Bennett in The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries,” and has also acted in “17 Again,” “The Roommate” with Leighton Meester, and “Honey 2.” She recently played Jada Pinkett in the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez on Me.”

A committed environmentalist, “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder has long been outspoken on the issue of climate change.

Given the presidential candidates’ differing takes on the subject, Somerhalder tells Variety he’s “wildly passionate” about the upcoming Nov. 8 decision, calling it “the most important election in human history.”

“That’s not me playing up American exceptionalism,” he says. “It has to do everything with our foreign policy and our understanding of the environment. Any person that potentially has the position of being President of the United States who thinks climate disruption is a hoax created by the Chinese doesn’t deserve to be in that seat. It’s just a simple fact.”

Kat Graham will portray Jada Pinkett Smith in the Tupac Shakur movie “All Eyez on Me,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Smith and Shakur were high school classmates at the Baltimore School for the Arts and remained friends before his 1996 murder. The film is currently shooting in Atlanta.

“All Eyez on Me” chronicles the life and legacy of Shakur, including his rise to superstardom as a hip-hop artist and actor, his imprisonment and his time at Death Row Records. The film is directed by Benny Boom and stars Demetrius Shipp, Jr. as Tupac and “Walking Dead” star Danai Gurira as Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur.
