Prepare for Caroline like we’ve never seen her before: not in the mood to throw a party. Yes, Ms. Forbes is not looking forward to turning the big 1-8.

“Whereas everyone would think Caroline would throw herself a fabulous party and she would be on cloud nine, Caroline’s actually really bummed out. She’s not excited for her birthday at all. The is the first time she’s realizing that even though she’s turning 18, she’s not really turning 18,” Accola explains. “This is the first time she’s realizing that her being a vampire will hold her back from a lot of firsts in her life and first and foremost, turning 18. Everyone’s excited to celebrate and she’s the only one who’s not really looking forward to and it and she just wants to be alone for her birthday.”

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Scoop: Klaus Has Big, Bad Plans For Caroline Tonight

Plus, Candice Accola tells us how she really feels about a possible Stefan/Caroline hookup…

It’s Caroline’s (Candice Accola) 18th birthday on the Jan. 12 episode of The Vampire Diaries, and I’m really hoping her big wish is to stay alive, because she’ll need all the protection she can get from Klaus (Joseph Morgan). “Caroline and Klaus haven’t really had any interaction up to this point, but their paths will finally cross,” Candice tells HollywoodLife.com of Caroline’s big day. “He sired her boyfriend, and she’s pissed. But you can’t really get pissed at Klaus because he’s got the power to kill anyone and everyone.” (Gulp!)

Speaking of Caroline’s hybrid boyfriend Tyler (Michael Trevino), Candice promises that by the end of this next episode, “we will have a clearer idea of how strong their relationship is, and if we think it’ll be able to sustain the sire bond or not.”

(Side note: the word “sired” makes me super uncomfortable, and Candice agrees that “it’s a weird word” to say.)

The Vampire Diaries: “It’s Not Just a Girly Show”

Kevin Williamson on the show’s current storylines and his FOX serial killer pilot.

Ah, The Vampire Diaries. A really cool, fun show, filled with all sorts of twists, turns and death – the mere title of which still makes many guys scoff, who think it must be exactly like Twilight.

Last night, at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, I had the chance to speak to the show’s executive producer, Kevin Williamson, about the show’s current storylines and the struggle to convince guys The Vampire Diaries is not just a show for girls. We also spoke about Williamson’s new FOX pilot, which will see the writer of Scream returning to the world of serial killers.

And yes, I know it’s amusing that even as we talk about how The Vampire Diaries isn’t as girly as people think, we begin by talking about a kiss that happened on the last episode… But hey, it was a big deal in the storyline!

IGN TV: I respect the romantic aspects of The Vampire Diaries, even if it’s not the main draw for me. Of course, that being said, Elena and Damon’s kiss was something people had obviously been waiting a long time for.

Kevin Williamson: Yeah. And it also made a lot of people mad. [Executive Producer] Julie [Plec] and I, that night… I texted her and was like, “Did you get some death threats on your Twitter?” And she goes, “I got some death threats and some other unseemly things.” I go, “Yeah, I got a couple of ‘F*gs’ and a couple of death threats.” We were listing all the bad things they were saying,.

Torrey DeVitto joins ‘The Vampire Diaries’: ‘For the sake of Alaric, I hope this lasts!’

Of course, for longtime fans of LJ Smith’s “Vampire Diaries” novels, the books from which the show was adapted, DeVitto’s character — a doctor who has a history in Mystic Falls, given the fact that she’s a member of a founding family — holds special significance. Meredith was an important character in the novels, though she has undergone some major revisions from page to screen.

Good news, Meredith fans — your favorite is in good hands, as DeVitto is, herself, a fan of the novels. “Well, when the pilot came around, I picked up the series and actually read the entire series without stopping,” she tells us. “I had just finished the ‘Twilight’ books and was so smitten with Edward, so I saw that this was vampires and I was like, ‘Great! I’ll read all of them!'”

That said, of course, she’s intentionally creating some distance between the book character and the TV writers’ reinterpretation. “I remember Meredith, but I don’t remember her completely and perfectly,” she says. “She’s very different on the show, so I didn’t really go back into the books and re-read, because I didn’t want to get too many conflicting ideas. I thought that was so cool to come on and not only be a part of the show, but also, I’m honored to be a part of something that the book’s fans are going to recognize and hopefully appreciate.”

What does a vampire do when he can’t get the job done? Call on a witch.

As we last saw on The Vampire Diaries, Stefan Salvatore is looking to take Klaus down, but a locked coffin stands in his way. Bonnie’s powers seem to be the only thing that can uncover the key to destroying the most dangerous hybrid in town.

“Stefan feels that it’s so important to his freedom, it’s detrimental to everything that he wants, to get [the coffin open] because he doesn’t want to deal with Klaus anymore on any level,” Kat Graham tells TVGuide.com. “He calls on Bonnie [who’s] resistant at first like.”

After losing her boyfriend and some of her mojo, The Vampire Diaries‘ resident witch Bonnie will soon find herself gaining a mom and a possible new love interest. But first, she’ll help her undead friend Caroline ring in her 18th birthday in this Thursday’s episode (The CW, 8/7c). TVLine chatted with Kat Graham about her character’s impending showdown with Klaus, long-awaited family reunion and more!

TVLINE | This week is Caroline’s birthday. How does the gang celebrate the big day?
In an unpredictable way. And where it takes place and what happens during the birthday is also a surprise that I don’t think has been revealed yet. It’s not a normal birthday.

TVLINE | Caroline is struggling as she turns a year older. What’s going on with her?
Getting older is hard, especially if you’re a vampire. She’s facing new thoughts that she hadn’t necessarily considered before. Everything’s kind of triggered it. She’s also in a slump because of what happened with her and Tyler.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Scoop: Stefan Betrays Elena This Week

The Jan. 12 episode finds the former lovers at odds — again — and it gets really ugly, really fast.

A while back, The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec told reporters that this would be the “year of the originals,” but it’s looking more like the year of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) to me — and that only becomes more evident after the Jan. 12 episode.

My Mystic Falls source tells me that last week’s confrontation between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena — you know, the one that ended in her slapping him and telling him to go to hell — is nothing compared to their heated confrontation this week.

Without giving too much away, Stefan’s ongoing battle with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) leads him to betray Elena in a way viewers won’t see coming. Decisions are made, actions are taken, and Elena ends up getting VERY hurt.

So here’s my question to you: How do you feel about Elena’s relationship with the Salvatore brothers this season? Are you annoyed with Stefan’s sudden change in character, or are you happy to see Damon’s sensitive side getting a chance to shine? Drop me a comment with your thoughts!
