The CW presented its new primetime schedule to the world this morning. When the network returns with new episodes in September, The Vampire Diaries will remain in its 8 p.m. Thursday night time slot.

But many changes and developments will certainly be on tap for the series. Such as? The CW’s official fall press release reveals some suspenseful and sexy scenes ahead on our favorite new show:

Next season, the appearance of the villainous Katherine in Mystic Falls throws a wrench into the love triangle between Stefan, Elena and Damon, and the other residents of Mystic Falls must choose sides as they fall victim to a new breed of danger. New and unexpected friendships will be forged, allies will become enemies, and hearts will be broken.

Stefan and Damon will be forced to face a villain more evil and diabolical than they ever believed possible. And they’ll take their shirts off. Frequently.

Katherine is here to stay on The Vampire Diaries. Her presence will be felt, strongly, on season two.

Warning: There may be spoilers in this article and if you don’t want to read, then click away now. You’ve been warned.

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have suggested that their characters on The Vampire Diaries could begin a relationship.

Somerhalder and Dobrev, who play Damon and Elena, told E! Online that they don’t know what will happen in the second season.

“We’re still curious ourselves,” Somerhalder explained. “I kind of got a little gist… [executive producer] Kevin Williamson was discussing a bit of next season and they have a pretty good idea of what they’re doing up until the first half of that season. And there’s some cool stuff.”

Somerhalder added that his character may be concerned about a relationship with Elena because his brother Stefan (Paul Wesley) is currently dating her.

“Damon loves his brother,” he said. “Of course he does. Just like Stefan – Stefan could have let Damon die like, five times. Of course he loves his brother. But it will be interesting to see the varying degrees of that love… When you mix the love of a woman with the love of a brother, things get a little hairy.”

Somerhalder also said that “hopefully one day” Damon and Elena will kiss, while Dobrev added: “I’m sure [in] however many years that we do the show… maybe down the line.”

News: Founder’s Day Frenzy from Entertainment Weekly

Author: Natalie | May 15, 2010 | Comments Off on News: Founder’s Day Frenzy from Entertainment Weekly

Filed Under: | News, Spoilers, TV Series

This is an awesome recap by my most favourite entertainment magazine, Entertainment Weekly. Beware of spoilers and they ask you to share in their comments what you think will happen next, or your thoughts. Obviously, we would love for you to share your thoughts with us here! Comment are open for discussion!

This is how you do a season finale: Three shocking moments of Damon sincerity reminding us that Ian Somerhalder can speak without moving his eyebrows, two notable deaths (possibly four, or five), one forbidden kiss, and a twist ending (Katherine!). We got enough closure to get us through the summer, but enough of a cliffhanger to make sure we’ll be back in the fall. And Jeremy made the hottest Civil War soldier since Jude Law in Cold Mountain.

So it was finally Founders Day. Let’s hope Mystic Falls doesn’t decide to go all out for the 151st anniversary, though I did find it hilarious when Caroline told Matt, “Hide your cast, it’s not era appropriate” and better, hotter, superior choice Damon joked to Stefan, “I’m here to eat cotton candy and steal your girl.” Because the town would be gathered for the parade and festival, the tomb vampires planned a killing spree during the fireworks — starting with the founding families. That’s when Uncle John planned on using Johnathan Gilbert’s one-time-only device: For an estimated five minutes, it would emit a frequency that humans couldn’t hear. Vampires would be incapacitated, and the sheriff’s deputies would shoot anyone who went down with vervain, then take them to the old apothecary where they would be finished off. Anna found out about the impending massacre from the tomb vamps, who somehow still thought she was on their side (maybe she told them about Pearl’s death at the hand of Uncle John?), and went to Damon. Did you notice how Damon grabbed Elena’s hand when he was telling Stefan that he had to get her out of there? Damon went to tell John that the device was useless and the tomb vamps were in munch mode, but of course it wasn’t. John loaded Damon with vervain and took him captive. Stefan escaped because Alaric pretended he was going to vervain him (yep, it’s now a verb), but Anna was also caught.

Now Anna had brought Jeremy a vial of her blood earlier in the episode because she wanted to leave town and make him a vampire so he could come with her. But he no longer wanted to do it. I thought for sure Anna took Jeremy into that bathroom right before the device went off because she was going to feed him some of her blood “just in case.” He would only turn if he got killed that night, right? If not, it’d leave his system and he’d be fine. Maybe that was her intention, but all we saw them doing was talking when she collapsed in his arms and was taken away. She started to come out of the vervain as John and Co. were pouring the gasoline for the basement fire. She reached out to John, to beg him not to end her life, and he knelt and staked her as Damon watched helplessly. Was that a minor act of mercy — staking is quicker than burning — or John wanting to make sure the vampire that was dating his nephew definitely died? Really, John and the deputies should have staked all the vampires, or at least Damon, who they should have known would find a way to escape. He came out of the vervain early enough to enjoy watching the mayor (not a vampire but still affected by the frequency) get his neck snapped by a tomb vamp before Stefan entered the fire — momentarily calmed by Bonnie’s magic — to rescue him.

This is a good time to talk about the softer side of Damon we saw this episode. Not only was it hot, it was well-acted. I’d sort of forgotten that Somerhalder, always deliciously over-the-top as Damon, was capable of realism. The first moment came when he saw Bonnie during the parade, stepping into Elena’s line of vision as the two waved at each other. No way did I expect him to walk over and thank her for what she supposedly did to the device. Damon was so… aware this episode. He read everyone’s motivations so clearly. Humanity activated! He knew Bonnie had only taken the spell off the device for Elena, but he was still very grateful. “I don’t take what you did lightly, so thank you…. I owe you.” If he hadn’t spoken then, Bonnie never would have helped save him in the end. I’m so looking forward to seeing what they do with Bonnie in season 2. She’s finally becoming as complex as the other characters. She can see the grays: She told Stefan if Damon dropped one drop of innocent blood, she’d take him out — and Stefan, if he stood in her way. She’s a force, and she knows it.

Second moment of shocking Damon sincerity: When he showed up in Jeremy’s bedroom to tell him about Anna’s death. The two had words earlier, when Damon tried to get Jeremy to stop being a punk who tells his sister to go to hell and instead forgive her. What was beautiful about that scene was that we all knew Damon knew exactly what Jeremy was going through — he’d watched Katherine be carted away to what he assumed was certain death — but he didn’t say it. He just told Jeremy that he’d wanted to help Anna, but couldn’t. He took Jeremy’s suffering away once before, he offered to do it again. Jeremy said he always felt empty and alone, even if he couldn’t remember why. Making him forget wouldn’t fix what was wrong. Damon then walked closer to him and said what he’d done to Vicki was wrong — he was sorry for his part. As Damon walked away, Jeremy asked him if it was true what Anna said: Vampires can turn off the pain, if they give up their humanity. Does that make life easier? Maybe if Damon had stopped with his first thought — “Life sucks either way, Jeremy” — Jeremy wouldn’t have decided to drink Anna’s blood and try to OD on Elena’s prescription pills. But Damon added, “At least if you’re a vampire, you don’t have to feel bad about it…. I did it for a very long time, and life was a lot easier.” Do you think Jeremy will become a vampire, or that someone will find him in time to save him? Which is worse: Ogling Jeremy’s biceps as he raised the vial of Anna’s blood and again when he lay down on his bed to die, or that my first thought was, Well, he could feed on John to complete the transformation?

The scene that followed with Damon and Elena on the porch was my favorite of, maybe, the entire first season — it didn’t even occur to me that it could possibly be Katherine.

Damon: You know, I came to this town wanting to destroy it. Tonight, I found myself wanting to protect it. How does that happen? I’m not a hero, Elena. I don’t do good. It’s not in me.

“Elena”: Maybe it is.

Damon: No. It’s reserved for my brother, and you, and Bonnie — even though she has a reason to hate me still helped Stefan save me.

“Elena”: Why do you sound so surprised?

Damon: ‘Cause she did it for you. Which means that somewhere along the way, [he moves closer] you decided that I was worth saving. And I wanted to thank you for that.

“Elena”: You’re welcome.

[Damon moves in for a kiss, that, exhale!, lands on Elena’s cheek.]

In the comments section, I would like you to describe what you were doing for those excruciatingly long seconds when Damon lingered inches from Elena deciding whether to try to really kiss her. Me, I was talking to the TV: “Damon, go. Damon, go. Damon, go. DAMON, GO. DAMON, GO. DAMON. GO. DAMON!” He didn’t. He kissed her, and it was steamy. Yeah, it didn’t feel like something Elena would do — maybe she would have been caught up enough by his lack of flirty compliments and “eye thing” for a peck, but not for a mini makeout session when she’d just gotten done assuring Stefan that she loved him and he had nothing to worry about when it came to her friendship with Damon. Jenna interrupted the kiss and told Elena she better come inside. Invitation! In she went to the kitchen, where she found Uncle John. Now that he knew Elena knew she was his biological daughter — she’d asked him as her father not to pretend she was a vampire if she insisted upon helping Damon (which he’d threatened to) — he was Mr. Chatty. He told her he’d loved Isobel, and part of the reason he hates all vampires is because of what she became. He never would have sent her to Damon if he’d known she wanted to turn. (So why did he send her to Damon?) He offered to help Elena put away some knives, and she cut off the fingers on his hand with the ring. “Katherine?” he said. GASP! Her face vamped out and she said, “Hello, John. Goodbye, John” and stabbed him in the stomach. This would be when I typed “Holy S—” in my notes. Cue the real Elena walking up to the house on her phone, telling Stefan someone took her stuff at the school. She was going to check on Jeremy before going to the hospital — where Caroline is fighting for her life after the frequency made Tyler wreck as he was driving her and Matt home — but as she yelled upstairs for Jeremy, she heard the noise in the kitchen. So many ways this could play out in the season premiere: Will Katherine already be gone, and they’ll have to piece together that sliced-and-diced John + “Elena” kissing Damon + Elena’s missing items = Katherine? Or will Katherine, who Isobel said would be fascinated by Elena, want to stick around now that she knows how much she means to Damon? Will John die? It’d be sick, but kinda awesome if Elena couldn’t bear the thought of losing Jeremy, and she told him to feed on John. It would be poetic, too, just like Stefan: His dad couldn’t understand that all vampires weren’t evil, then he’s what helped Stefan become one… Still, I suspect John will be dead, Elena will run upstairs, find Jeremy, and call 911 in time to save him.

Your turn. What did you think of the season finale? Where do you think/hope we’re headed in season 2? Clearly Damon — who made a point of telling Elena that he liked her better dressed as herself, not Katherine — will ultimately have to choose between the ladies, right? I worry that before then, Damon will decide to turn off his humanity again and have angry sex with Katherine. Or worse, pretend she’s Elena… Oh, who am I kidding? I totally want that to happen.

P.S. How soon do you want Tyler’s storyline to kick in? I want to hate him for how he treated Vicki, and made out with Matt’s mom, but the boy can wear a uniform and his werewolf eyes sure were pretty. Do we hope he’s good or evil? It might be nice if, in the Vampire Diaries world, werewolves hate witches. Damon saving Bonnie would be one way to win us back were he to go off the deep end with Katherine…

P.P.S. Reading your comments, I think you’re right: They could blame Damon for killing John. Jenna could say she saw Damon kissing “Elena” on the porch, and Elena and Stefan could think Damon was somehow suddenly in cahoots with Katherine. But that seems like something Damon could quickly explain: Like, “I wish I would have killed John, and I thought I was kissing Elena — but I didn’t.” I think they’d believe him. I like the idea of Damon realizing it was Katherine he’d kissed and coming back to find both Katherine and Elena in the kitchen. [Cue the logo in the season premiere].

OH. MY. FREAKING. GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If September was tomorrow, oh, life would be so freaking grand!!!!!!!

The Vampire Diaries KILLED IT tonight and to do it straight justice, I will not do a full recap, because A) I would be writing all night and B) NO RECAP will do the episode ANY justice. It is a must see with your own eyes!!!! Let’s begin!!!!

It’s Founder’s Day and everyone is getting ready for the festivities, but problems and drama still blanket the happy, cheery mood of Mystic Falls. Damon and Stefan still snarl and push each other over Elena’s affections, making Stefan confess to Elena about John Gilbert being her father; Caroline still has to witness the Matt and Tyler drama; Bonnie’s still a bitch (but I still love you, girl!); and Anna finds out that Jeremy has had a change of heart on being a vampire, but she still leaves a vial of her blood with him in case his mind flops again. While the denizens of Mystic Falls deal with their problems, Johnathan Gilbert and Mayor Lockwood are planning to multiply those problems by using the town as bait to suss out the vampires with that magical device that Bonnie “forgot” to unarm. Sheriff Forbes is not for this plan and as Sheriff, declares it a no go. That is until John knocks her out and handcuffs her to a pole.

The plan is as follows: John will activate the device, which acts like a dog whistle by sending out a pulse that only vampires can hear in a five mile radius. When the vamps attack during the fireworks display (which John found out from a vampire source, possibly the one Damon and Alaric killed), the pulse will go out, rendering the vamps helpless and exposed. The cops will then inject the vamps with vervain before taking them to Dr. Grayson Gilbert’s old medical building where John will “finish them off”. Crazy plan, right?

Anna informs Damon of the Tomb Vamps plan before getting Jeremy and trying to leave the premises. The mayor has Tyler go home and to take Matt and Caroline with him. He and Mrs. Lockwood have to announce the fireworks show and then they will be off. Damon finds John in the abandoned doctor’s building, which is when John sends the pulse out. All the vamps go down, including Damon, Stefan, and Anna. So, why the hell does Tyler AND Mayor Lockwood go down as well?!?!???!?!? Seems like that device shows no prejudice to wolves as well! But unfortunately when Tyler hears the pulse, he is driving, which leads him to have a car accident with Matt and Caroline in the car with him. While medics check up on Tyler (and get a scare when the kid’s eyes turn ‘wolfy’), Caroline collapses and has to be taken to the hospital!

Meanwhile, John and the cops get all the vamps into the basement of the old clinic, including Anna (who was pulled out of the arms of Jeremy), Damon and Mayor Lockwood. Damon witnesses as John Gilbert takes it upon himself to STAKE ANNA before setting the basement on fire!! While the fire blazes, Mayor Lockwood wakes up and is shocked when he sees Damon. After Damon reveals that he’s a vampire (and promptly asking the Mayor what the hell is HIS excuse for being down there), Mayor Lockwood backs into the waiting arms of the leader tomb vamp who snaps his neck!

Outside, Alaric saves Stefan from being toast and informs them that Damon is nowhere to be found. Stefan superhears the commotion in the basement, leading him and Elena to the doctor’s office that is guarded by John and cops. When Stefan runs to save his brother, John grabs Elena and tells her if she steps one foot towards the building that he will include her in the fire. Elena balks, asking if he would do that to his own daughter!!!! The comment is a smack to John’s face, which confirms for Elena that what Stefan has told her is truth.

Bonnie just so happens to be at the other entrance into the building and tries to stop Stefan from going in, but he ignores her. Elena tries to go in, too, but Bonnie stops her and begins reciting an incantation, which helps Stefan get in, get Damon out, and leave without being hurt. Wow… Bonnie came through yall!!!

Cliffhangers Galore!!!!

The cast and crew weren’t lying when they said the show had multiple cliffhangers and I’d be damned if they didn’t deliver. We had a total of four to five, depending on how you want to define or count them, and all had heavy relevance that will make this summer an excruciating hell. How will we cope (besides the new season of True Blood)? Article on that coming soon…

Now let’s wrap this up quickly:

– Matt and Tyler make up in the hospital, but Sheriff Forbes drops two bombshells: 1) Caroline was suffering from internal bleeding and has to undergo immediate surgery 2) Tyler needs to call home, because of his dad…

– Jeremy gets a visit from Damon, who confirms Jeremy’s fears of Anna’s death. Damon offers to take the pain away, but Jeremy says it wouldn’t help. Damon apologizes to Jeremy for everything and the two discuss how vamps can turn off their feelings, something that Anna told Jeremy earlier that day. Damon says that it does work and that’s easy when you are a vampire, but that life still sucks either way. After Damon leaves, Jeremy takes the vial of Anna’s blood, drinks it and downs some pills and waits for the inevitable to happen!

– Bonnie tells Stefan that even though she saved his and Damon’s life, she did it for Elena and Elena alone. She also says that Damon has to change his ways or she will take both him and Stefan down at the drop of a hat. And she meant business, yall.

– Damon leaves the Gilbert house and bumps into Elena and he spills all his feelings out to her, including that he has had a change of heart since he has returned to Mystic Falls and now wants to protect the town, instead of destroying it. Plus, he is thankful that Elena would consider saving his life, which means to him that Elena feels that he is worth something. Elena is eerily quiet throughout this confession. The two enter a longing stare before they KISS!!!!!! PASSIONATELY, MIND YOU!!! But didn’t Elena just tell Stefan that she loves him and wants only him?!!? Jenna opens the door and is shocked at what she sees, telling Elena to come in. Damon stands on the porch with a “Wait a minute…” look on his face. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

– Elena makes her way to the kitchen where John is and he immediately goes into apologetic, explanation mode. Elena still remains silent. When he is through talking, John asks if Elena needs help putting up the knives. She says yes, then picks one up and CHOPS OFF JOHN’S RING FINGER!!!!!! Before John can even ask, “Elena” reveals herself to actually be KATHERINE!!!!!! Then she stabs John with glee!!!

– The Real Elena comes home and walks into the eerily quiet house. She calls for everyone and heads into the kitchen, which is when The Vampire Diaries logo bitch-slaps the crap out of me!!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it feels so damn good!!!!!

Oh and about that no recap thing… it seems that I lied and I apologize, but still… This recap doesn’t do the episode justice. WATCH IT!!!!!

From The Journals of the Council

So now we have to wait until September to find out what the hell happened!!!! But let’s sum up what we now know upfront:

– Katherine is FINALLY in Mystic Falls!!!! Imagine the hell to come!!!! And she better not be there for only 1/4 of the second season either!

– Tyler is close to wolfing out!!!! I did NOT expect to see Tyler OR Mayor Lockwood go down during the Pulse!!!! And when Tyler’s eyes got all “wolfy”?!?!? I literally jumped! CAN. NOT. WAIT to see how this plays out!!!!!

– John Gilbert is dead!!!!! (Finally!) The Queen has returned and she doesn’t need that sap in the way. Is it wrong that I was jumping on my couch like a teenybopper at a Zac Efron signing as John was getting his just desserts? If I was, then I don’t give a damn…

– Jeremy could be UNdead!!!! (Sadly) His treatment of Elena was soooo unwarranted and I hope that he wakes up the next morning with a bad stomach ache and nothing else.

– Damon is changing for the better! From apologizing to Bonnie all the way to feeling some remorse for the death of Anna, I think our resident bad boy has discovered that it’s not always good to be bad. Does it have anything to do with his feelings for Elena or has the black and white nature that he has always followed finally got it’s first drop of gray? Will he lose it now that Katherine is back in town?

Guys, we have to wait three and half months for new TVD!!!!! THREE AND A HALF MONTHS!!!!! Will you handle it???! Did you scream and jump out your living room windows like I did?!?! Let me know your pain!!!!!

It’s been a great year and I hope to see you guys again this fall!!!!

Warning: This article contains spoilers that some readers may prefer to avoid. Please click here if you wish to continue.

Nina Dobrev has promised that the season finale of The Vampire Diaries will shock fans.

Speaking to The AP, Dobrev explained that the finale has to be better than all the other episodes.

“Every episode has to surpass the last,” she said. “So there’s cliffhangers, there’s a lot going on, a lot of information, fast-paced, people dying, blood. So the finale, it has to exceed all expectations and it has to shock even more, and it does.”

She continued: “There will be a couple of new faces that enter into the picture and a lot of suspense and some of the characters will do things that come as a shock and that you wouldn’t have otherwise expected.

“I remember reading the script for the first time and [at the] end of the season people are going to be frustrated and angry with some characters, shocked, excited. People are going to be talking and waiting very impatiently for the second season to start.”

Dobrev also hinted that Bonnie and Elena’s relationship will be a big part of the finale.

She said: “Bonnie and Elena, they have a long history together, they’ve been friends forever, and this presence of vampires is tearing them apart because Stefan and Damon are basically the direct reason why her grandmother passed away. So there’s a lot of tension there and their friendship is definitely going to be tested.”

I’ve been coming across many articles regarding “Founder’s Day” and it’s got me really wondering what’s going to happen next on The Vampire Diaries. On our facebook fanpage, (located here), we would like to start a discussion about the series and where you think it’s headed. It’s SPOILER marked and we hope you’ll join in with your theories, speculations and *gasp* even spoilers!

Here’s the article from TVFantatic:

As the incredible first season of The Vampire Diaries winds down, we know a few things about this Thursday’s finale:

1. A major character will die.
2. Damon will say many snarky things.
3. Elena and Jeremy’s relationship won’t be on good terms.

The final point listed above is the focus of the following two clips. In the first, Damon and Elena share a moment, but it’s quickly overshadowed by the latter’s attempt to fix things with her brother. How does it go? Not so well…

From there, it’s on to another sneak peek below. This one centers on Damon and his conversation with Jeremy.

I was checking out TVSquad and found this blurb about Thursday’s finale:

‘Vampire Diaries’ (8M, The CW) season 1 finale
The whole first season hasn’t lacked for drama and excitement, but the first season finale kicks all that up a notch or 20 with an episode that series star Nina Dobrev tells TV Guide will include “a lot of vampire … a battle … (and) fatalities.” The episode revolves around Mystic Falls’ Founder’s Day celebration, which means lots of fancy dresses and parade floats. But the merriment takes a turn for the tragic, as Dobrev’s Elena continues to be torn between the Salvatore brothers, one her boyfriend (Paul Wesley’s Stefan) and the other her ally, Damon (Ian Somerhalder). “The finale might make a lot of people angry,” Dobrev warns. And very anxious for the second season premiere, too, we’re guessing.

Callie in Baltimore: How about some hints on the OMG moments in the season finale of The Vampire Diaries? Are they really OMG?
I can tell you that the biggest of them all is more OMFG, and it’s a double death. One a younger actor. One an older actor. Both will be off the show for good.

Gia in Golden, Colo.: I can’t wait till this week’s Vampire Diaries, but I was wondering if the deaths of Pearl and Harper were the two you were speaking of in a previous Spoiler Chat?
They were. But two more will go also.
