EXCLUSIVE: She’s back! Former The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev, is returning to television and switching things up with a comedic turn as the lead of CBS multi-camera comedy Fam, from writer Corinne Kingsbury, Kapital Entertainment and CBS TV Studios.

Written by Kingsbury and directed by Scott Ellis, Fam is about a woman, Clem (Dobrev) whose younger half-sister, Shannon (Odessa Adlon), comes to live with her and her fiancé to escape their train wreck of a father.

Dobrev’s Clem is grounded, deeply funny, quick-witted and outspoken. She was a bit of a hot mess in her younger years, but since then, she has worked hard to create the best version of herself and her life is on track. She is a real charmer who is ecstatic when Jay, the love of her life, proposes. In the “best version of herself,” she claims that her own father is long dead, but the fact is that her dad, Freddy Banks, whom she hasn’t seen in 10 years, is such an embarrassment that she has lied about his death. And when her half-sister Shannon shows up unexpectedly, Clem’s lie is about to become painfully obvious to everyone who trusted and believed her. And that lie just might end her relationship with Jay for good.

Kingsbury executive produces with Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor as well as Wendi Trilling via TrillTV. In addition to Adlon, Dobrev joins previously cast Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Following her six-season run as the lead Elena on The Vampire Diaries, Bulgarian-born Dobrev, who returned for the series finale, has been focused on features, starring in Paramount’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Sony’s Flatliners reboot, and indie comedy Crashpad opposite Christina Applegate and Domnhall Gleeson. She will be seen in the upcoming indies Dog Days directed by Ken Marino, Departures opposite Maisie Williams and Asa Butterfield, and Roger Avary’s Lucky Day.

Dobrev is repped by Lighthouse Management and Media and CAA.

Here’s some howling good news for Vampire Diaries fans: Michael Trevino has landed a role on The CW’s Roswell reboot, TVLine has learned.

The former Mystic Falls werewolf/hybrid/etc. will play Kyle Valenti in the potential series, which retells the original WB/UPN sci-fi saga with an immigration twist.

Kyle is popular and the son of the town sheriff, but he begins to question his charmed life after learning some horrible things that have happened in his family’s past.

The potential series — penned by Originals scribe Carina Adly MacKenzie — centers on Liz Ortecho (Grey’s Anatomy’s Jeanine Mason), a jaded biomedical researcher and the daughter of undocumented immigrants who is haunted by a tragic incident. She discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush (played by The Originals‘ Nathan Parsons): He’s an alien.

The cast also includes Tyler Blackburn (Pretty Little Liars), a member of the military (with secrets of his own) who is recently returned from the Middle East.

In addition to TVD, Trevino’s TV resumé includes The Originals, The Riches and Bones.

Will you be checking out Paul Wesley in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein?

Author: Jen | December 15, 2017 | Comments Off on Will you be checking out Paul Wesley in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein?

The Vampire Diaries star teamed up with his off-Broadway castmates at a meet and greet at the Shelter Studios on Thursday (December 14) in New York City.

He was joined by Robert Fairchild, who also choreographed the show, as well as Mia Vallet, Rocco Sisto, Krysty Swann, Avey Noble, Peyton Lusk, and Shiv Ajay Pancholi-Parekh.

The production, directed by Donald T. Sanders, will run from December 21 to January 7, with opening night on December 27 at Pershing Square Signature Center.

In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, “The joys and perils of motherhood, the hovering shadow of infant mortality, and the sting of loneliness and rejection merge as Mary Shelley creates her masterwork, Frankenstein. The Creature that Dr. Frankenstein produces, an assemblage of disparate elements, coalesces into a monster with a human soul. His horrific appearance conceals the gentlest heart. Through no fault of his own, he is forced to descend into evil deeds. Excerpts from the 1818 edition of Frankenstein, music, and dance interwoven with Mary Shelley‘s letters and diaries create parallel narratives as both dramas unfold.” (via TheaterMania.com)

Phoebe Tonkin to Appear in The Affair Season 4

Filed Under: | Casting News, Non TVD Projects, Phoebe Tonkin, TV Series

Cole’s personal journey in the fourth season of The Affair will put him the path of two very familiar-looking artists.

Phoebe Tonkin (The Originals) and Amy Irving (Alias) will guest-star in an episode of the Showtime drama’s upcoming season, TVLine has learned exclusively. Irving will play Nan Perino, a sculptress from Morro Bay, Calif., with a “mysterious” connection to Cole’s father. Tonkin will play Daphne, Nan’s protégé, who “guides” Cole through his quest for answers.

In addition to The Originals, which returns for its final season in 2018, Tonkin’s small-screen resume also includes roles on The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle. Irving, who has been nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, recently starred in ABC’s short-lived Zero Hour.

Unlike The Affair‘s first three seasons, which explored the complicated connections between its core characters — Noah (Dominic West), Alison (Ruth Wilson), Helen (Maura Tierney) and Cole (Joshua Jackson) — the fourth season separates those individuals, sending them on their own journeys of self-discovery. Per the network, “every character is involved in a new relationship, forcing them each to decide if they’re ready and willing to leave the past behind for good [in] a season about new beginnings, tragic ends and the ever-elusive possibility of forgiveness.”
