Apr 29th: CW Picks Up Vampire Diaries Spin-Off The Originals

Jen | Categories: News, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on CW Picks Up Vampire Diaries Spin-Off The Originals

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is on his way to becoming king!

The CW has officially ordered The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals to series, the network announced on Friday. Freshman series Beauty and the Beast and Rachel Bilson’s sophomore charmer Hart of Dixie were renewed for additional seasons as well.

Starring fan favorites Morgan, Daniel Gillies and Claire Holt, The Originals’ backdoor pilot aired on Thursday, taking the hit series’ fans to New Orleans and delivering quite the shocking twist.

“As soon as we saw last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, we knew we wanted more of The Originals—Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have done a fantastic job with The Vampire Diaries, which is as fast-paced and well-written as ever, and Julie has created an equally compelling world for The Originals,” the network’s president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement.

Feb 11th: The CW Orders Early Renewals for Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and Arrow

Jen | Categories: News, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on The CW Orders Early Renewals for Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and Arrow

The CW on Monday announced early pick-ups for three of its series: Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and Arrow.

Arrow gave The CW its best series premiere since 2009, Vampire Diaries is the network’s highest-rated show in target demos and Supernatural is up 15 percent in total audience versus last season. The dramas will be entering their second, fifth and ninth seasons in fall 2013, respectively.

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” network president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

Jan 29th: ‘Vampire Diaries’ Taking Advantage of Social Media Buzz

Jen | Categories: News, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on ‘Vampire Diaries’ Taking Advantage of Social Media Buzz

It pays to be a watercooler show.

The CW’s hit drama The Vampire Diaries was the most buzzed-about television series for the week of Jan. 21-27, topping Trendrr.TV’s list of most social primetime broadcast shows.

In an effort to ramp up awareness for Thursday’s “Catch Me If You Can,” several castmembers – including Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder – participated in a live Twitter session with executive producer/showrunner Julie Plec during the episode’s broadcast. A hashtag, #TVDparty, was specifically created for the occasion – and was often among the top 10 trending topics at various points of the evening.

Across multiple social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, GetGlue and Viggle, Vampire Diaries generated nearly 865,000 interactions, taking over the top spot from Fox’s American Idol.

For a serialized drama such as Vampire Diaries, which inspires several Twitter trending topics during any given Thursday broadcast, social dominance is crucial – especially when ratings are usually a fraction of what other networks normally average. For The CW, however, Vampire Diaries remains the network’s most dependable show, often serving as a launch pad for rookie TV dramas like The Secret Circle and Beauty and the Beast.

Jan 29th: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ is the most buzzed-about show of the week: Why that matters

Jen | Categories: News, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ is the most buzzed-about show of the week: Why that matters

If TV shows were ranked by the social media frenzy they incite instead of by Nielsen’s antiquated, unreliable ratings, The CW would be sitting pretty. First, GetGlue named “Supernatural” the most talked-about show of 2012, and now, Trendrr (another social media monitoring service) announces that “The Vampire Diaries” was the most social program last week.

Executive producer Julie Plec and cast members Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Zach Roerig, Kat Graham, and Claire Holt promoted the hashtag #TVDParty. They even answered fan questions from the set during the east coast airing of “Catch Me If You Can,” which aired on Thursday, January 24. The episode generated 865,000 social interactions on Twitter, Facebook, GetGlue and Viggle. (No, we didn’t know Viggle was a thing, either, but… yay?)

Here’s why this matters: The CW and Warner Bros. are paying attention to your online activity. That can only be good news for the shows you love — and love to talk about. The network and studio pushed a press release to the media and promoted a blog post about the achievement. Networks’ focus on Nielsen ratings is shifting as they realize that there are more effective ways of measuring a show’s popularity — which is good news for all cult hits, particularly those with middling ratings.

Of course, that’s not to say that “Vampire Diaries” isn’t a ratings hit by CW standards; it remains one of their most reliable shows, along with “Arrow” and “Supernatural,” and isn’t in danger of being canceled. But for other shows, like “Nikita” and “Hart of Dixie,” social buzz can only help increase chances of renewal next season, especially with such a strong crop of pilots at the network.

So keep tweeting, liking, and checking in — it can only help you keep your faves on the air.

Mar 27th: Vampire Diaries Scoop – Jules Returns!

Tracey | Categories: Michaela McManus, TV Series, TVD Family, Twitter | Comments Off on Vampire Diaries Scoop – Jules Returns!

The Vampire Diaries’ next full moon promises to be a big one, and TVLine has learned that Michaela McManus’ Jules won’t be missing out on all the mayhem.

Sources close to VD confirm to TVLine exclusively that Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) werewolf pal will resurface in Mystic Falls at some point before the end of the season. No word on how long she’ll stick around this time, but we’re told Jules’ reappearance will coincide with the town’s next full moon.

Last we saw Jules, she was leaving Mystic Falls with Tyler under the guise of helping him learning the ins and outs of his wolfy powers. And since Trevino confirmed at last weekend’s C2E2 event in Chicago that he was finally back on the show’s Atlanta set after a lengthy hiatus — and shooting night scenes, to boot! — it’s safe to assume the two will make their way home together.
