Dec 22nd: What the Show Will — and Won’t — Take From the Books

Tracey | Categories: Books, Julie Plec, News, TV Series | Comments Off on What the Show Will — and Won’t — Take From the Books

Diehard fans of both The Vampire Diaries and the series of books the show is based on know that they aren’t the same thing. Certain elements from the novels haven’t made it into the show — but executive producer Julie Plec says that doesn’t mean they won’t borrow in the future. (Besides, she adds, some of what works in the books comes off, well, a bit “cheesy” on screen!)

Plec sat down with TVGuide.com on the Atlanta set of the CW series to talk about the relationship between the books and the show. What won’t make it to TV? Which relationship may not happen at all? Plus, Plec reveals she’s thinking of giving one couple more of a history.

Dec 11th: ‘Vampire Diaries’ exclusive: Kevin Williamson talks his potential companion series that’s ‘full of scary, horrible murder and surprises’

Tracey | Categories: Exclusive, Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, Non TVD Projects | Comments Off on ‘Vampire Diaries’ exclusive: Kevin Williamson talks his potential companion series that’s ‘full of scary, horrible murder and surprises’

If you recently heard the potential companion series to The Vampire Diaries exec producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec (pictured) are in the early stages of developing described as “The X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” you may be imagining Alaric (Matt Davis) teaching history at a new high school. “That’s exactly what the show is not,” Williamson tells EW on the latest edition of the TV Insiders podcast, with a laugh. “That was the wrong characterization. I was like, ‘What is Buffy meets The X-Files?’ They’re completely at odds tonally. It’s neither. It’s set on a college campus. There’s a little bit of some paranormal investigation involved, but it’s more about the characters. It’s more about what Julie and I like to do, which is create a world of people. A young girl goes to college, and it turns out there’s a lot more going on.”

That’s all he wants to give away for now. “Warner Bros. doesn’t like us to talk about shows that may never happen,” he says, laughing again. “We don’t know if we’ll get it written in time, or if this will be for this year, next year…. But it’s just something we’re both very passionate about because we’ve got this whole world and this whole sort of mythology about this girl and this journey that she takes. It’s full of scary, horrible murder and surprises, and all the twists and turns that we love to do, but once again it is a story about epic love. That’s what we’re about here at The Vampire Diaries. And that’s sort of why you call it a ‘companion piece,’ is because you will see those similarities in the show. You know, a bunch of fun characters that you can visit every week and watch them go through all these scary, twisty story lines, but it all leads to some greater story about epic and tragic love.”

Nov 11th: Season 2 Spoilers: What to Expect From “Katerina” Tonight

Natalie | Categories: Season 2, Spoilers, TV Series | Comments Off on Season 2 Spoilers: What to Expect From “Katerina” Tonight

Entertainment Weekly has always been a great source for us die-hard Vampire Diaries fans. From Ausiellio to photos to, well, just plain juicy spoilers, it has it all.

Check out the latest article released online today on what we can expect from tonight’s episode. Be wary, there are spoilers and you have been warned. Do not continue if you wish to stay spoiler free:

‘Vampire Diaries’ scoop: Katherine’s diabolical master plan, her history with Klaus, and Damon’s chest all revealed tonight

Every episode of The Vampire Diaries on The CW is a big episode thanks to the pace set forth by executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. But tonight’s promises to be extra revealing: We finally learn about Katherine’s diabolical master plan. “After nine episodes of that question — ‘What are you doing back in town? What is it that you want? Why are you here?’ — finally, she explains herself,” Plec says. “We are incredibly proud of this episode, mostly because the work Nina Dobrev does is unbelievable. She plays Katherine as a human in Bulgaria with a Bulgarian accent, she plays human Katherine pretending to be English in the English countryside, she plays Katherine as a vampire in present day, she plays Elena. And a good portion of the episode is Elena and Katherine having a conversation, so she’s essentially acting opposite nothing, a stand-in or air. This is her episode to shine.”

Side note: If you have donated to the Ian Somerhalder Birthday Project, this is your last chance. The donation buttons will be pulled from the site tonight after The Vampire Diaries airs on the East Coast. Use the sidebar donation button to help a fantastic cause!

Yesterday Kat Graham, Steven R. McQueen, Zach Roerig and Sara Canning took to the NY Comic Con stage with executive producers Julie Plec & Kevin Williamson to talk all things “Vampire Diaries.” And let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The day kicked off with sublime new footage that teased Caroline & Matt sharing a moment at The Masquerade Ball, Katherine & Mason sharing a bed (seriously hot) and Alaric & Jeremy sharing weapons.

Yes, that’s right — Elena’s little brother is about to come to the forefront in a big way over the next handful of episodes. Which was just one of the supreme spoilers to come out of Comic Con.

May 28th: Julie Plec’s interview by the VRO

Faith | Categories: Julie Plec, Spoilers | Comments Off on Julie Plec’s interview by the VRO

MTV was nice enough to recap the entire interview the VRO had with Julie Plec. We could have a lot of scoops on the second season of Vampire Diaries, and about our best – and creepiest! – characters!

Here are a few tidbits

-Julie hinted that Stefan, Elena and Jonathan Gilbert may not be the only ones with diaries. “Who knows, maybe Katherine had a journal back in the day,” she teased.

-We’ll continue to see flashbacks from 1864, but the writers have also brainstormed more current scenes for future seasons. An ongoing joke is Stefan and Damon partying at the now-defunct nightclub Studio 54.

-Ever wondered what happened to that menacing crow that flew around the first few episodes (we did!)? Julie said the crow and fog, which Damon both controlled, seemed a little too supernatural for the show—and that’s saying a lot for a series revolving around vampires!

-Julie sometimes has to nix story ideas because they’re too similar to things that have happened in “Twilight” or “True Blood,” “I’ll pitch a story, and [Kevin] will be like, ‘No, we can’t do it. “True Blood” just did that.'”
