Feb 23rd: The Vampire Diaries’ Daniel Gillies: Elijah Taking Elena Hostage Was The Ultimate Disgrace

Jen | Categories: Daniel Gillies, Interviews, Season 3, Spoilers, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series, Videos | Comments Off on The Vampire Diaries’ Daniel Gillies: Elijah Taking Elena Hostage Was The Ultimate Disgrace

“In the beginning I was a very old vampire who was going to live like two episodes,” Daniel Gillies explains to TVGuide.com. “They didn’t know I was going to be a brother, I [just] was a henchman.” But Elijah has transformed from being terrifyingly powerful in his knowledge and skills, to a still powerful vampire, but one with a distinct moral compass and compassion for Elena who Gillies calls a warrior.

Feb 17th: ‘Vampire Diaries’: Daniel Gillies on why we love vampires

Jen | Categories: Daniel Gillies, Interviews, Season 3, Spoilers, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on ‘Vampire Diaries’: Daniel Gillies on why we love vampires

Daniel Gillies plays formidable Elijah foe-turned-ally in Season 3 of “The Vampire Diaries.” After being resurrected for the fourth time in the series, Gillies shares his insights on the show’s star, Nina Dobrev, who plays small-town doppelganger Elena Gilbert, the future of the Original vampire clan and the classical nature of his character. But Elijah isn’t Gillies’ main focus — upcoming projects include the NBC medical drama “Saving Hope,” with “Smallville’s” Erica Durance and Michael Shanks, and a new film, “Broken Kingdom,” with Rachel Leigh Cook that he wrote and directed. This is Part 2 of an interview with Nardine Saad; you can read Part 1 here.

NS: You say Elijah has been around for 1,000 years, yet he’s still getting duped by “ludicrous nothings.” Do you consider Elena a “nothing?”

DG: I’m certainly not calling Elena nothing. Yes, that instance with the lake [was a nothing]. But the fact [is] that he can’t identify danger and yet he’s supposed to be — like all of the Originals — this formidable adversary. For some reason, he drops his guard too much.

Feb 17th: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Daniel Gillies talks last night’s episode, and what’s next for Elijah and Elena

Jen | Categories: Daniel Gillies, Interviews, Season 3, Spoilers, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Daniel Gillies talks last night’s episode, and what’s next for Elijah and Elena

Fans were rendered speechless in the final moment’s of last week’s installment of The Vampire Diaries, when Original Mama Esther cast a spell that bound all of her children together, with the ultimate intention of killing them. To be fair, her drastic actions were not completely unwarranted — her children are a scheming, murdering group of ancient vampires who treat human beings like their silly little playthings. The lone, sensitive standout, and the only offspring to give Esther a bit of pause, was Elijah (Daniel Gillies).

Unfortunately for Elijah, last night was a full moon — the celestial event Mama Esther needed to cast her wicked spell. EW caught up with Gillies after last night’s do-or-die episode, “All My Children,” to discuss last night’s action and speculate on what’s next. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Feb 17th: Interview: ‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Daniel Gillies Dishes On The “Unspoken” Feelings Between Elijah and Elena

Jen | Categories: Daniel Gillies, Interviews, Season 3, Spoilers, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on Interview: ‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Daniel Gillies Dishes On The “Unspoken” Feelings Between Elijah and Elena

Tonight’s Vampire Diaries is gearing up to be a big one. After last week’s epic Original family ball, you’d think we’d get a week or two of downtime. But not with this show. The Original siblings will undoubtedly find out that their witchy mother has enlisted Elena to help in this massive diabolical plan to kill them all. Certainly, Elena and Elijah’s complicated friendship will suffer as he learns of her betrayal. Meanwhile, the hints at potential feelings between the two may surface.

We caught up with Daniel Gillies [Elijah] about tonight’s episode “All My Children” and asked whether he thinks Elijah’s feelings for Elena are the real deal. Could they ever work as a couple? Find out below!

Ology: So obviously, last week was a huge episode. Tonight’s a big episode as well. It looks like Elijah finds out Elena betrayed him. What can you tell us?

Elena’s going to be… she’s in trouble. The Originals are sorta using her in order to converge against their own mother. Their mother, of course, has kind of doomed them. So I think they need to fight that.

Feb 17th: The Vampire Diaries’: Daniel Gillies Talks Elijah and Elena’s Flirtation

Jen | Categories: Daniel Gillies, Interviews, Season 3, Spoilers, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on The Vampire Diaries’: Daniel Gillies Talks Elijah and Elena’s Flirtation

Elijah’s seeming attraction to Elena comes from a similar desire to intrigue the audience. “Nina Dobrev and I just like working with each other and maybe we’re a little too flirty with each other. It just ends up in what we’re doing. That’s all it is. I really enjoy working with Ian Somerhalder. Not so flirty with Ian. Only with Nina.” He does think that there is more than simple friendship between the characters.”There’s some sort of unsaid thing that’s happening which I like. It’s going to sound pretentious, but it’s kind of like a spiritual romance. They both aspire to the same qualities in a person. I think that Elijah’s certainly enchanted by a nobility that she’s able to uphold, that he aspires to.” He may even forgive Elena after he learns that she has betrayed him. “He’s able to forgive Klaus (Joseph Morgan) for some atrocities. I think that if he thinks people are doing things in their best interests, then he’s probably relatively forgiving. We just have to see.”

Feb 17th: Vampire Diaries Star Daniel Gillies Reveals Where He’s Headed, and the Elena Scene We Never Saw!

Jen | Categories: Daniel Gillies, Interviews, Season 3, Spoilers, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on Vampire Diaries Star Daniel Gillies Reveals Where He’s Headed, and the Elena Scene We Never Saw!

Gillies has had a lot of epic moments on TVD (including shattering windows with mere coins and surviving four deaths!), but his favorite was a much simpler scene that didn’t make the final cut of a season two episode. “They cut this one moment out and it was my favorite moment,” Gillies tells us. “It was the most beautiful piece of writing. I love scenes when they’re very, very simple.”

So what moment was it? Surprise, surprise: it was a moment between Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Elijah, which he describes as “succinct and pure.” During a scene between the two characters, Elena does something and Elijah just stares at her. “She goes, ‘What? What is it?’ and Elijah says, ‘It’s nothing. You remind me of what I liked about being human.'” I liked it. I just thought it was one of the best things they ever wrote.” Beautful writing, indeed!

Gillies admits he was (and continues to be) shocked by the overwhelming fan response to Elijah, but he’s not complaining. “I don’t get it,” he says. “I feel really blessed. I did not think I would survive beyond two episodes. That’s what he was supposed to live for in the beginning. I don’t get why I’m still around to be honest. I just feel very lucky that the fans seem to like him so much.”
