EXCLUSIVE: The CW and Warner Bros TV kept the search for the male lead in their buzzed-about new pilot Cult in-house. Matt Davis, co-star of the hit CW/WBTV series The Vampire Diaries, is set to star opposite Jessica Lucas in the pilot, which WBTV co-produces with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire. Written by Rockne O’Bannon, Cult centers on Skye (Lucas), an inquisitive young production assistant on a wildly popular television show called Cult. After a rash of disappearances and a likely murder, she joins Jeff (Davis), a journalist blogger whose brother was among those gone missing, in investigating the rabid fans of the series who might be re-creating crimes seen on the program in real life. In addition to starring in Cult, Davis will be available to make guest appearances in future seasons of Vampire Diaries, where he plays high school history teacher/vampire hunter Alaric Saltzman. He is with Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment.

There’s another Gilbert coming to Mystic Falls.

Newcomer Lindsey R. Garrett has been cast on The Vampire Diaries as Samantha Gilbert, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Samantha, in her 20s, is described as a bit of a gossip, but don’t expect her to cross paths with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) anytime soon. She’ll appear only during flashbacks in the episode titled “1912,” airing at the end of February, as one of the town’s founding family members who interacts with both Salvatore brothers.

Two days ago, The Vampire Diaires star Ian Somerhalder made a Twitvid revealing that the more honorable original, Elijah~Daniel Gillies, will be returning in early spring. The short on-set video titled, “‘The Vampire Diaries’ boys”, featured Ian’s chair, plus those belonging to co-stars Joseph Morgan, Matt Davis, Paul Wesley and lastly Daniel Gillies. I guess we need to restart our ‘Elijah for Mayor’ campaign again…Whatcha think?!?!

I also have some fabulous casting news to spoil on the Gilbert front. A new character named Samantha Gilbert will be appearing in Mystic Falls soon. The casting has just begun, but Samantha is said to be a smart, beautiful brunette around 25. She’ll be sweet as they come, with a devilish side to her and will first appear in episode 16.

I know i posted the tvguide article about the casting news, but this has slightly different information

To clear up a few things — yes, those are the only two remaining siblings.

However, there are a few extra coffins in Klaus’s collection… and we will find out why after the show returns.

“There were seven children in the Original family,” executive producer Julie Plec tells us. “What we’ve learned is that one of them died before the parents came to the new world, one of them died at the hands of the werewolves — poor Henrik — which leaves five children. There’s definitely a question of why, if there are only two left, why are there all those coffins. That is a good question, and that’s something that will be answered.”

Get ready to meet Klaus’ other Original brothers on The Vampire Diaries.

British actor Caspar Zafar (La Femme Muskateer) and Australian actor Nathaniel Buzolic (Out of the Blue) have been tapped to play the recurring roles of Finn and Kol, respectively, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. Both brothers have a bone to pick with Klaus (Joseph Morgan), especially since they’ve been locked up in those coffins Klaus has been carting around for so long.

We’ve previously met Klaus’ step-father, Mikael (Sebastian Roche), who Klaus killed in the midseason finale, and Klaus’ sister, Rebekah (Claire Holt), who recently died at the hands of Elena (Nina Dobrev). Meanwhile, the group’s other brother, Elijah (Daniel Gillies, is back in the coffins that Stefan (Paul Wesley) so cleverly stole from Klaus. Two other Original brothers died of the plague and a werewolf attack centuries prior.

The Vampire Diaries returns Thursday, Jan. 5 at 8/7c on The CW. Zafar and Buzolic will first appear in Episode 13.

If you’ve ever seen Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Cool Hand Luke, or The Color of Money, then you are aware of legendary actor Paul Newman. Well, starting in Season 3, Episode 11, “Our Town,” his grandson Daniel Newman (One Tree Hill, Heroes) will be joining the Mystic Falls crew on The Vampire Diaries. Newman will play Daniel Warren, a mysterious stranger.

We know how well mysterious strangers usually fare on TVD, and considering Newman has roles in The Great Gatsby and The Dark Knight Rises coming up, it seems unlikely that this newcomer will be cooling his heels at the Grill for long.
