We’ve been awaiting new music from Vampire Diaries actress/model Kat Graham for a minute, and thankfully, Graham has returned with a new track from her forthcoming spring album. Check out “1991,” which is premiering exclusively on

Produced with longtime collaborator Jean-Yves “Jeeve” Ducornet, “1991” is a New Jack dance track that clearly evokes the year in its title. Graham describes her as-yet-untitled album, which is set for an April release, as also carrying a “throwback” sound, with main influences including TLC, Boyz II Men, Blackstreet and Prince.

“I spent most of my time in music– at least for the songs that garnered attention– singing other people’s work,” says Graham. “I want to be honest about that because I am finally doing what I’ve always wanted to do and making music that I’ve always wanted to make.”

The Switzerland native released her debut EP, Against The Wall, in 2012, and has worked with producers like Mitch Allen and Damon Elliott. Her 2013 single “Power” was also premiered on

Exclusive: Listen to ‘Vampire Diaries’ star Michael Malarkey’s Song ‘Feed the Flames’

Now you can listen to Enzo whenever you want.

Vampire Diaries star Michael Malarkey is set to release a 5-song EP, Feed the Flames, on Oct. 12; the title track will debut on iTunes Sept. 16.

“As far as my songwriting goes, I became infatuated with Tom Waits after graduating high school, specifically Rain Dogs (probably the most influential album of all time for me) and The Heart of Saturday Night,” Malarkey tells Billbaord. “[That] lead to further obsessions with Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen whose narrative qualities continue to influence my songwriting to this day.…oh, and Dylan of course. One of the only covers I ever learned on my own accord was ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright.'”

” ‘Feed The Flames’ is about reinventing love as you go along, fighting and making up, flirting with disaster and madness and coming out stronger after the struggle,” Malarkey tells Billboard. “It’s very lyrically driven and honest and there’s a fair bit of finger-picking. My greatest challenge in making this record was trying to keep that real “backporch” quality but also adding something more to my usual lo-fi approach. It’s heart-breaking yet hopeful and I’m very happy with the way it’s turned out.”

Like what you hear? Malarkey will perform Oct. 11 at the Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta (tickets currently on sale via Ticketmaster), then on Nov. 15 at Webster Hall in New York and Dec. 6 in Los Angeles. Tickets for those shows go on sale Sept. 17.

Kat Graham, the Swiss-born star of CW’s “The Vampire Diaries,” is simultaneously forging a pop career on A&M/Octone, and has followed up tracks like “Put Your Graffiti on Me” and “Wanna Say” with her most cohesive radio offering to date. Check out “Power,” Graham’s new single, premiering exclusively on

“Power” is an empowering slice of electro-pop that allows Graham to recount the experience of “throwing all the pages of the past out the window” and find new strength in the form of a balanced romance. With pounding drums and a chorus that congeals into a rally cry, “Power” is fittingly epic for a showcase of lyrics that aim to inspire.

“The meaning behind ‘Power’ for me was to express that true power comes from within,” says Graham. “Someone can come into your life and unlock the door to your potential. For me, that was love, but it can be anything to anyone… It’s a song that starts off with the feeling like you’re just one of many, and someone forcing you to see that in the end, there’s only you.”

“Power” will be pushed to Top 40 radio, while the singer — who has collaborated with artists like and Snoop Dogg — will perform at the Kiss The Summer Hello concert for KISS 98.5 in Buffalo on June 29. Want more Kat Graham? Watch the music video for “Wanna Say” below:
