he Vampire Diaries has cast a face very familiar to The CW viewers — Cassidy Freeman (aka Smallville‘s Tess Mercer) — in a mysterious and delicious-sounding new role, TVLine has learned exclusively.
In the 16th episode of TVD‘s Season 3, Freeman will play Sage, someone who is described as “sexy and fearless, with a devilish smile.” (You don’t say….)
Appearing in flashbacks circa 1912, Sage’s allure is felt by the Salvatore brothers as well as by the Original family. The role is potentially recurring.
Earlier this TV season, Freeman guested on the CSI: NY opener and recurred on NBC’s The Playboy Club. Coming up, she is a cast member of the new A&E drama Longmire, which also stars Robert Taylor (The Matrix) and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and is set to debut this summer.
wow another book character coming to tvd. (although in the book Sage is a man and a friend of Damon’s)
Hi Sandra! I’ve been reading a lot online recently about a new character coming to The Vampire Diaries, Samantha Gilbert, and that she’s supposedly a new love interest for Damon?? As a hardcore Delena shipper, please SAY IT ISN’T SO!!! — Sophie
It isn’t so. “She’s not for Damon,” EP Julie Plec assures. “We’ll meet her in the past, not the present. She’s somebody that we meet in not present-day Mystic Falls.” All better, Soph?
I am dying over these Vampire Diaries photos right now and don’t know what to think, especially Caroline and Klaus. I need scoop immediately anything on #TVD. — @Gval21
You should be dying — of excitement. Because as hinted in last night’s episode — and teased to Spoiler Room by Julie Plec — it’s on. “I have a feeling …….
Anything about TVD‘s Stefan/Katherine? Thanks! — Rose
Though she’s currently on the down low, I’d expect to see Katherine very soon. “She’s gone underground, and so it will be a surprise when we see Katherine again. ……

Despite that scene, which Plec describes as “really powerful and, in a very weird way, so seductive and so sexy,” she tells us “there’s nothing to talk about” when it comes to Klaus and Caroline…yet.
“It’s this very intimate conversation between the two of them about what it means to have eternal life, and I think we can safely say that possibly after that scene Caroline has caught the attention of Klaus a little bit.” Aw, is Klaus going to have a bit of a crush on our favorite blonde? Sounds like it’s possible and we love it!
Still, Plec says, “It’s not something we’ll play right away or ever, but they had a connection that did not go unnoticed by him, at least in his mind, not necessarily in her’s.”
It’s been reported that Klaus will be getting a love interest later this season, but it doesn’t mean that he’ll be actually be receiving any love. “I think Klaus has to be worthy of love in his actions before we overtly or deliberately put love in his life,” Plec teases. “But that doesn’t mean he can’t think he’s falling for someone who might look at him and say, ‘Absolutely not’ or ‘Hmmm…maybe!'”

The Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan raised quite a few eyebrows at The CW’s TCA panel for their “Bad Ass Boys” earlier today when he insinuated that Klaus may not be as hardened or deliciously evil (as we like to put it!) as he appears, even though the lead-in to that statement was to call Klaus a sociopath. It was such an intriguing statement, and one that we couldn’t help but wonder if it veiled a spoiler, that we had to ask him to elaborate further on what to expect from this “new” Klaus who may have lost part of the upper hand to Stefan (Paul Wesley) and is striking up deals with his once-enemies.
“You know, I think the more we go into this series, the more we’re going to see more layers to [Klaus],” Morgan pointed out. “So certainly there’s a– I wouldn’t say softer, but a more caring side, a more tender side, a more human side that we’re going to see. I don’t think it’s a front that he puts on; I think it’s a switch. I think it’s a choice to say ‘I’m going to tear your head off,’ and it’s in a heartbeat that he switches, you know? It’s really one of the frightening things to a sociopath, which I believe he is. I don’t know that I believe he’s growing in that direction, I just think we’re seeing more. He’s been in Mystic Falls long enough that maybe he’s letting more people in that he didn’t let in before.”

Morgan admits that while Klaus may be interested in Caroline, part of his decision to save her was about winning the affection of people like the Sheriff and Matt. “I think it was a little of both,” he says. “There is definitely an honesty there. I’ve played from the beginning that Klaus is lonely and craves companionship. That’s what the whole of Episode 3 was about, with him and Stefan.”
In terms of his relationship with Caroline, there’s an appeal to Klaus about being a sort of role model. “There’s a sort of appeal in the idea of being a mentor, after being alive a thousand years,” he says. “He wants to let her know the great things about being a vampire. There’s all this art and music and culture that you can expose yourself to, and be a part of. It’s not all just killing.”
Of course, Klaus always has his agenda in the background. “I think there’s always an element where he feels like, ‘What’s this going to get me?’ He operates on that level. But still, I’d like to think that a lot of his relationship with Caroline comes from a genuine place.”
