Nov 30th: Nina Dobrev Talks To Flaunt Mag About Leaving TVD and Upcoming Projets

Jen | Categories: Interviews, Magazines, Nina Dobrev, Non TVD Projects, The Vampire Diaries | Comments Off on Nina Dobrev Talks To Flaunt Mag About Leaving TVD and Upcoming Projets

When Nina Dobrev was a young girl growing up in Toronto, she had a habit of talking to strangers. But don’t worry, she usually got the better of them. “When my mom would eventually meet the person, she’d find that I’d given them a fake name, a fake background, a fake everything,” recalls the 27-year old actress who was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and moved with her family to Toronto when she was two. “I was creating characters from when I was tiny.” Dobrev, makeup-free and dressed in a flowing floral pantsuit, leans back in her chair and smiles at the memory. “I thought it was fun to see how far I could go in convincing someone of something that wasn’t real. I found pleasure in it.”

The Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley has signed a pod deal at Warner Bros. TV for his production company, Citizen Media, with partner/former The Vampire Diaries executive producer Bob Levy.

Under the pact, Wesley and Levy will develop new television projects for the studio, starting with a darkly comedic single-camera half-hour based on a non-fiction article by Jason Smith called Confessions Of a Drug-Addicted High School Teacher.

Citizen Media has three other series projects in the works that preceded the WBTV deal, including a limited series at ABC produced by Robert Redford.

Jul 20th: Chris Wood Joins Supergirl Season 2 as ‘Surprise’ Series Regular

Jen | Categories: Casting News, Chris Wood, Non TVD Projects, TV Series | Comments Off on Chris Wood Joins Supergirl Season 2 as ‘Surprise’ Series Regular

It’s safe to say someone over at The CW is a big Chris Wood fan.

The veteran of Vampire Diaries, Carrie Diaries and, most recently, Containment, is joining Supergirl in a series-regular role that’s shrouded in secrecy, TVLine has learned exclusively. All that we know is that the actor will be playing a surprise DC Comics character, and that he’ll make his debut early into the series’ second season.

Supergirl has made a number of significant casting moves as it transitions from CBS to The CW, most notably tapping Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Hoechlin to guest-star as Superman. Other key hires include erstwhile Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, as president of Supergirl‘s United States, Cougar Town alum Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, a journalist appointed by Cat (Calista Flockhart) to serve as the editor-in-chief of CatCo Magazine, and Floriana Lima (The Family) as gay Metropolis Special Crimes Unit captain Maggie Sawyer.

Wood, meanwhile, recently landed a recurring role in the second season of PBS’ Civil War drama Mercy Street. He’ll play Lance Van Der Berg, a handsome Union captain lodging at the Green home, where he strikes up a budding romance with AnnaSophia Robb’s Alice.

Supergirl Season 2 premieres Monday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c.

Jun 9th: Interview: Paul Wesley on ‘Cal in Camo’, Ingmar Bergman, and How Musicals Are Connected to His Monologues

Jen | Categories: Interviews, Non TVD Projects, Paul Wesley | Comments Off on Interview: Paul Wesley on ‘Cal in Camo’, Ingmar Bergman, and How Musicals Are Connected to His Monologues

Paul Wesley may be famous for facing supernatural beings in The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, but in William Francis Hoffman’s Cal in Camo, he is battling something much more horrific: his character, Flynt, is trying to get over the death of his wife by spending some time with his sister Cal (Katya Campbell) and her husband Tim (David Harbour), who are going through a crisis of their own. Every character in the play is lost, they’re all trying to rediscover themselves as they’ve become nothing but facades. The small ensemble is rather commendable, but it’s Wesley who is a true revelation. Where he could’ve easily made Flynt all about the surface and given him tics and mannerisms to reflect his inner turmoil, he instead focuses on revealing the character through Flynt’s silences. Cal in Camo is Mr. Wesley’s New York stage debut, but judging from his command of the stage, it’s quite likely he’ll be back many more times.

I had the opportunity to speak to him about entering Flynt’s mind, his interest in directing, and some of his most cherished memories related to theatre.
