Jun 30th: Ian Somerhalder: ‘The Anomaly is Memento meets The Bourne Identity’

Jen | Categories: Ian Somerhalder, Interviews, Non TVD Projects | Comments Off on Ian Somerhalder: ‘The Anomaly is Memento meets The Bourne Identity’

Hard though this is to believe, it’s been more than four years since Noel Clarke last directed a movie. He had a triple whammy of writer-producer credits in 2012 with Fast Girls, Storage 24 and The Knot. Now he’s back behind the camera, parlaying his Storage 24 and Star Trek Into Darkness experience into a low-budget but high-concept science fiction thriller.

Clarke plays the lead role of Ryan, a former soldier who finds himself captive in the back of a van and only able to stay conscious in bursts of precisely 9 minutes and 47 seconds.

Digital Spy sat down with Ian Somerhalder on the film’s London set last summer to discuss the joys of shooting sci-fi on a shoestring, the film’s Memento-like premise, and his work with the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.

Jun 25th: ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Steven R. McQueen: No ‘Arrow’ Nightwing role yet

Jen | Categories: Interviews, Non TVD Projects, Steven R. McQueen | Comments Off on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Steven R. McQueen: No ‘Arrow’ Nightwing role yet

In a bit of good news for fans of Jeremy on “The Vampire Diaries” but bad news for those who wanted to see Nightwing on “Arrow,” Steven R. McQueen has admitted that no one has offered him a role on the latter show. Not yet anyway.

Rumors that McQueen, who plays Jeremy Gilbert on “The Vampire Diaries,” was up for the role of the heroic Nightwing on “Arrow” began as early as November 2013. They were pretty much started and spread by McQueen himself on Twitter.

Now, however, McQueen has admitted that it’s all wishful thinking at this point. “If I get a chance to play a superhero, I can’t make any promises that I’m not going to run with it,” the actor tells The Wrap in a recent interview.

Nightwing is a DC Comics character and a later evolution of Batman’s sidekick, Robin. McQueen has made it clear that he is a fan of both that character and of “Arrow” as a whole.

That fandom isn’t quite enough for a role now, but it may just be in the future. Both “Arrow” and “The Vampire Diaries” will return to The CW in the fall of 2014.

Jun 20th: Steven R. McQueen Helps Tells Story About His Grandfather in new SpikeTV Documentary

Jen | Categories: Non TVD Projects, Steven R. McQueen | Comments Off on Steven R. McQueen Helps Tells Story About His Grandfather in new SpikeTV Documentary

Spike TV to Premiere New Documentary I AM STEVE MCQUEEN, 6/24

Spike TV pays homage to one of Hollywood’s iconic movie stars, Steve McQueen, in the original Spike TV documentary “I Am Steve McQueen.” The 90-minute special, narrated by Robert Downey Jr., will premiere on SPIKE TV, Tuesday, June 24 at 9:00pm ET/PT.

“I Am Steve McQueen” tells the incredible life story of this legendary actor, racer, and cultural icon. Extensive interviews, movie clips, archival footage and sound bites chronicle his extraordinary career while focusing on the correlation between his on-screen and off-screen experiences. The film is produced by Derik Murray and directed by Jeff Renroe.

“I Am Steve McQueen” is told through the eyes of the people that knew him best including much of his family that followed his path into acting including son Chad, (“Karate Kid”), his grandson Steven (“Vampire Diaries”), granddaughter Molly (“Carjacked”) and former wives Neile Adams McQueen (“This Could Be The Night”), Ali MacGraw (“Love Story”), and his widow former model Barbara Minty McQueen. Also featured will be an array of luminaries from Hollywood including Gary Oldman, Pierce Brosnan, Marisa Miller, Robert Vaughn, Randy Couture, John Gilmore, Zoe Bell, Norman Jewison, Kristin Kreuk, and Ben Mankiewicz.

Known as the “King of Cool,” McQueen will forever be known in cinematic lore by his rugged good looks, bad-boy persona, and searing charisma. He grew from a small-town thug to become the highest paid and most sought-after actor of his generation. McQueen’s credits include “The Sand Pebbles” (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award), “The Thomas Crown Affair,” “The Getaway,” “Papillon,” “The Magnificent Seven,” and “The Towering “Inferno.”

McQueen lived fast and drove faster, channeling his passion for racing cars and motorcycles into seminal stunts and chase scenes in classic movies like “The Great Escape” and “Bullitt.”

“In a time of social upheaval, McQueen’s art imitated his life through the cinematic expression of his own true essence,” said Derik Murray, Executive Producer. “McQueen became a symbol of American freedom and individuality and this documentary truly captures his unforgettable spirit.”

Spike TV’s Kevin Kay, Christopher Martello, and Jaimee Kosanke serve as Executive Producers along with Chad McQueen, and Dave Green from McQueen Racing LLC; Tim Gamble from Thunderbird, and Derik Murray, Paul Gertz, Kent Wingerak, Robert Pirooz, David Reeder, and Ali Pejman from Network Entertainment.

The documentary is the latest in SPIKE TV’s original “I Am” series. The network debuted the critically-acclaimed ‘I Am Bruce Lee” in 2012, also produced by Derik Murray.

Spike TV is available in 98.7 million homes and is a division of Viacom Media Networks. A unit of Viacom (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB), Viacom Media Networks is one of the world’s leading creators of programming and content across all media platforms. SPIKE TV’s Internet address is www.spike.com.

Jun 18th: Paul Wesley and his Grandfather work on PSA together about Polish Heritage

Jen | Categories: Non TVD Projects, Paul Wesley, Photos | Comments Off on Paul Wesley and his Grandfather work on PSA together about Polish Heritage

After stepping behind the camera to oversee an episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 5, Paul Wesley is following up his directorial debut with yet another meaningful project. This time around, the talented actor is working on a public service announcement about a subject very close to his heart — his Polish heritage. And just in case that news doesn’t have you grinning from ear to ear, the situation gets even more endearing: the PSA will feature an interview with his beloved grandfather, who lives in Warsaw!

Towards the end of May 2014, the TVD star — clearly excited to be honing his directorial skills while spending time with his relatives — posted an announcement to his official Twitter page discussing his involvement with the project. “Very excited to be directing a PSA for Welcome.us – Check out the site and stay tuned for Immigrant Heritage Month this June,” he stated, before sharing photos of his adventures abroad.

Aww! How sweet is it that he cast his grandpa in the video? We wouldn’t expect anything less of such a stand-up guy, and honestly cannot wait to see what Paul churns out. For those of you who are unaware of this fun fact about the 31-year-old leading man, his last name is actually Wasilewski. He changed his surname while starting out as an actor — but he still maintains a strong and commendable connection to his Polish roots. (Psst. He’s even fluent in the langage. Swoon!) And sure, we may be jumping the gun here, but we have a feeling that whatever he produces will end up be a amazing, poignant tribute to Poland and the beautiful country’s rich history and culture!

Jun 8th: ‘Arrow’ Season 3: Will ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Steven McQueen play Nightwing?

Will “Arrow” Season 3 grant “The Vampire Diaries” star Steven R. McQueen his wish to play Nightwing on the CW action series? The caption on a recent Instagram photo featuring McQueen and “Arrow” star Stephen Amell indicates it might just happen.

The Instagram photo appeared on Wednesday (June 4), apparently in support of hockey’s L.A. Kings for the NHL finals.

One might think this is just two CW, hockey fans hanging out if it were not for the accompanying caption: “@amelladventures @lakings #arrow #nightwing #gokings”

McQueen has been publicly lobbying to play the character of Nightwing — a DC Comics character who is a later incarnation of Batman’s sidekick, Robin — for awhile now. But his entreaties haven’t yielded results with “Arrow,” possibly because there hasn’t been a place for Nightwing in the show’s complicated story.

Could that change in Season 3? Could McQueen be leaving behind his regular character of Jeremy Gilbert in favor of Nightwing?

Only time will tell.
