Jen | Categories: Non TVD Projects, Steven R. McQueen | Comments Off on Steven R. McQueen Helps Tells Story About His Grandfather in new SpikeTV Documentary

Spike TV to Premiere New Documentary I AM STEVE MCQUEEN, 6/24

Spike TV pays homage to one of Hollywood’s iconic movie stars, Steve McQueen, in the original Spike TV documentary “I Am Steve McQueen.” The 90-minute special, narrated by Robert Downey Jr., will premiere on SPIKE TV, Tuesday, June 24 at 9:00pm ET/PT.

“I Am Steve McQueen” tells the incredible life story of this legendary actor, racer, and cultural icon. Extensive interviews, movie clips, archival footage and sound bites chronicle his extraordinary career while focusing on the correlation between his on-screen and off-screen experiences. The film is produced by Derik Murray and directed by Jeff Renroe.

“I Am Steve McQueen” is told through the eyes of the people that knew him best including much of his family that followed his path into acting including son Chad, (“Karate Kid”), his grandson Steven (“Vampire Diaries”), granddaughter Molly (“Carjacked”) and former wives Neile Adams McQueen (“This Could Be The Night”), Ali MacGraw (“Love Story”), and his widow former model Barbara Minty McQueen. Also featured will be an array of luminaries from Hollywood including Gary Oldman, Pierce Brosnan, Marisa Miller, Robert Vaughn, Randy Couture, John Gilmore, Zoe Bell, Norman Jewison, Kristin Kreuk, and Ben Mankiewicz.

Known as the “King of Cool,” McQueen will forever be known in cinematic lore by his rugged good looks, bad-boy persona, and searing charisma. He grew from a small-town thug to become the highest paid and most sought-after actor of his generation. McQueen’s credits include “The Sand Pebbles” (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award), “The Thomas Crown Affair,” “The Getaway,” “Papillon,” “The Magnificent Seven,” and “The Towering “Inferno.”

McQueen lived fast and drove faster, channeling his passion for racing cars and motorcycles into seminal stunts and chase scenes in classic movies like “The Great Escape” and “Bullitt.”

“In a time of social upheaval, McQueen’s art imitated his life through the cinematic expression of his own true essence,” said Derik Murray, Executive Producer. “McQueen became a symbol of American freedom and individuality and this documentary truly captures his unforgettable spirit.”

Spike TV’s Kevin Kay, Christopher Martello, and Jaimee Kosanke serve as Executive Producers along with Chad McQueen, and Dave Green from McQueen Racing LLC; Tim Gamble from Thunderbird, and Derik Murray, Paul Gertz, Kent Wingerak, Robert Pirooz, David Reeder, and Ali Pejman from Network Entertainment.

The documentary is the latest in SPIKE TV’s original “I Am” series. The network debuted the critically-acclaimed ‘I Am Bruce Lee” in 2012, also produced by Derik Murray.

Spike TV is available in 98.7 million homes and is a division of Viacom Media Networks. A unit of Viacom (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB), Viacom Media Networks is one of the world’s leading creators of programming and content across all media platforms. SPIKE TV’s Internet address is www.spike.com.

Jun 18th: Paul Wesley and his Grandfather work on PSA together about Polish Heritage

Jen | Categories: Non TVD Projects, Paul Wesley, Photos | Comments Off on Paul Wesley and his Grandfather work on PSA together about Polish Heritage

After stepping behind the camera to oversee an episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 5, Paul Wesley is following up his directorial debut with yet another meaningful project. This time around, the talented actor is working on a public service announcement about a subject very close to his heart — his Polish heritage. And just in case that news doesn’t have you grinning from ear to ear, the situation gets even more endearing: the PSA will feature an interview with his beloved grandfather, who lives in Warsaw!

Towards the end of May 2014, the TVD star — clearly excited to be honing his directorial skills while spending time with his relatives — posted an announcement to his official Twitter page discussing his involvement with the project. “Very excited to be directing a PSA for Welcome.us – Check out the site and stay tuned for Immigrant Heritage Month this June,” he stated, before sharing photos of his adventures abroad.

Aww! How sweet is it that he cast his grandpa in the video? We wouldn’t expect anything less of such a stand-up guy, and honestly cannot wait to see what Paul churns out. For those of you who are unaware of this fun fact about the 31-year-old leading man, his last name is actually Wasilewski. He changed his surname while starting out as an actor — but he still maintains a strong and commendable connection to his Polish roots. (Psst. He’s even fluent in the langage. Swoon!) And sure, we may be jumping the gun here, but we have a feeling that whatever he produces will end up be a amazing, poignant tribute to Poland and the beautiful country’s rich history and culture!

Jun 8th: ‘Arrow’ Season 3: Will ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Steven McQueen play Nightwing?

Jen | Categories: Casting News, Non TVD Projects, Steven R. McQueen, Twitter | Comments Off on ‘Arrow’ Season 3: Will ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Steven McQueen play Nightwing?

Will “Arrow” Season 3 grant “The Vampire Diaries” star Steven R. McQueen his wish to play Nightwing on the CW action series? The caption on a recent Instagram photo featuring McQueen and “Arrow” star Stephen Amell indicates it might just happen.

The Instagram photo appeared on Wednesday (June 4), apparently in support of hockey’s L.A. Kings for the NHL finals.

One might think this is just two CW, hockey fans hanging out if it were not for the accompanying caption: “@amelladventures @lakings #arrow #nightwing #gokings”

McQueen has been publicly lobbying to play the character of Nightwing — a DC Comics character who is a later incarnation of Batman’s sidekick, Robin — for awhile now. But his entreaties haven’t yielded results with “Arrow,” possibly because there hasn’t been a place for Nightwing in the show’s complicated story.

Could that change in Season 3? Could McQueen be leaving behind his regular character of Jeremy Gilbert in favor of Nightwing?

Only time will tell.

May 28th: Exclusive interview with Rick Cosnett

Jen | Categories: Interviews, Non TVD Projects, Season 5, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on Exclusive interview with Rick Cosnett

May 28, 2014 | We came to love australian actor Rick Cosnett with the piercing blue eyes as the determined and unrelenting Dr. Wes Maxfield on “The Vampire Diaries”. Very soon we will see him as series regular Eddie Thawne on hot new The CW superhero show “The Flash”. In our interview Rick talks about some exciting and funny stuff from his time on “The Vampire Diaries” and gives a few little clues about “The Flash”.

1. Congrats on landing the part of Eddie Thawne on “The Flash”! You’re gonna play a supervillain right after playing a villain on “The Vampire Diaries”. Is that your favorite part of acting, exploring how a character is pulled into the darkness?
Wow thanks! We’re so excited about it. Unfortunately you’re going to have to watch to find out exactly what happens as Eddie’s lips are sealed right now. I do love the messed up depths of Dr Wes and I think it’s something that fascinates and scares me about the human condition. I always want to know why people behave in extremes and how they got to that point. Eddie is a wonderfully complicated character to play.

2. What is the most exciting part for you being on this brand new show?
The cast and the creators. I am so invigorated and feel lucky to be working with people who are so passionate, down to earth and talented. It’s gonna be a real ensemble effort and I feel like the chemistry is gonna set it all on fire.

3. On “The Vampire Diaries” you play Dr. Wes Maxfield who introduces a whole new story arc to the show, the secret society Augustine. Secret societies are always somehow enticing. Can you relate to Wes’ choices, trying to eliminate a threat using scientific methods?
I related Wes’ choices very much to prejudice. He is a man who is simply ignorant and spirals out of control. He sees vampires as ‘other’, just as a lot of ignorant people in society today see different races, sexes etc as ‘other’ to themselves. They will treat people completely differently based on this awful assumption and so it is with Wes. Hopefully with the fall of Wes, what we can take away are values of equality. I hope, something in addition to blood and sexy vampires of course.

May 21st: Watch Joseph Morgan Lose His Memories in the Dermaphoria Trailer (VIDEO)

Jen | Categories: Joseph Morgan, Non TVD Projects, Videos | Comments Off on Watch Joseph Morgan Lose His Memories in the Dermaphoria Trailer (VIDEO)

Is Joseph Morgan stepping into Walter White’s hazmat suit? The trailer for JoMo’s new psychological thriller Dermaphoria has just been released, and it’s a real trip.

Director Ross Clarke makes his feature film debut with this gritty, atmospheric drama, which finds Joseph Morgan stepping into the shoes of Eric Ashworth, a man who wakes up in jail, accused of arson, without any recollection of how he got there. His past remains a mystery until he discovers a strange new hallucinogen that allows him to recover his memories. It turns out he may have created the drug when his former life as an illegal chemist becomes clearer. But as his tolerance for the drug increases, the lines between his drug-induced dreams and reality are blurred.

Judging from the trailer, which you can watch below, Dermaphoria looks like it has the potential to turn JoMo into Hollywood’s next leading man. (Nice American accent, Joseph!) The film also stars Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Walton Goggins (Sons of Anarchy) and Kate Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy).

Dermaphoria will premiere at the East End Film Festival on June 13, 2014 in the UK before making its US debut later in the year.
