“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star Domhnall Gleeson, Christina Applegate, Thomas Haden Church and Nina Dobrev are starring in the romantic comedy “Crash Pad,” which has started shooting in Vancouver, Variety has learned exclusively.

Wonderful Films, Indomitable Entertainment, and Windowseat Entertainment are the production companies. Kevin Tent, the Oscar-nominated editor on Alexander Payne’s”The Descendants” and “Nebraska” is making his directorial debut with a Black List script by Jeremy Catalino.

Gleeson stars as a hopeless romantic who thinks he’s found true love with an older woman, played by Applegate — only to learn that she’s married and that his fling is merely an instrument of revenge against her neglectful husband, played by Church. He threatens to blackmail her by telling her husband but his plan backfires when the husband decides the best way to get back at his wife is to move in with Gleeson’s character and adopt the slacker’s life of debauchery.

Payne, who directed Haden Church in “Sideways,” is executive producing. Producers are William Horberg of Wonderful Films and Lauren Bratman. Besides Payne, the other exec producers are Dominic Ianno, Jon Ferro and Stuart Pollok of Indomitable Entertainment, Joseph McKelheer and Bill Kiely of Windowseat Entertainment, and Vicki Sotheran of Sodona Entertainment.

“As an editor, Kevin Tent has helped craft some of the great performances of the last decades,” said Horberg. “He is a natural storyteller, and I can’t wait to see what he does with this wonderful cast and Jeremy’s hilarious script. And of course he can always fix it in post!”

“I agree with Bill, except for the last thing,” said Payne.

Gleeson is represented by Paradigm and The Agency. Church is represented by CAA and Finley Management. Applegate is represented by CAA and Management 360. Dobrev is represented by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Oct 9th: ‘The Final Girls’ Star Nina Dobrev Talks the Surprising Horror Film, ‘Vampire Diaries’, and More

Jen | Categories: Interviews, Nina Dobrev, Non TVD Projects, The Vampire Diaries | Comments Off on ‘The Final Girls’ Star Nina Dobrev Talks the Surprising Horror Film, ‘Vampire Diaries’, and More

The Final Girls is an unconventional horror comedy centered on Max (Taissa Farmiga), a high school senior, who is mysteriously transported with her friends into the 1980s horror film Camp Bloodbath, that starred Max’s mother (Malin Akerman), a celebrated scream queen. Once trapped inside the movie, Max is reunited with her mom, who she lost in real life, and along with Max’s friends, they must survive a machete-wielding killer with no conscience and find a way to escape and make it back home.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Nina Dobrev (who plays mean-girl-with-a-heart Vicki) talked about how she came to be a part of The Final Girls, the director’s vision, what she thinks will most surprise people about the movie, how much fun the cast had bonding, and which movies she’d personally like to jump into and interact with the cast. She also talked about the importance of balancing work life with personal life, her current work goals, where she might be headed next, and what spending six years on The CW series The Vampire Diaries means to her.

Oct 8th: NINA DOBREV’S NEW CHAPTER

Jen | Categories: Interviews, Magazines, Nina Dobrev, Non TVD Projects | Comments Off on NINA DOBREV’S NEW CHAPTER

For six years, Nina Dobrev starred as Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries, one the CW’s most successful shows. She won four People’s Choice Awards, six Teen Choice Awards, and even dated her co-star Ian Somerhaulder. But Dobrev, who was born in Bulgaria and still speaks the language fluently, never quite fit into the network’s usual teen queen mold, and when her contract expired at the end of the show’s sixth season, she was ready to move on. Today, The Vampire Diaries will begin its seventh season without its protagonist.

Now 26, Dobrev is being judicious about what she does next. She’s returning to her roots in the indie film industry, first with The Final Girls, a playful spin on cheesy ’80s slasher flicks that won the Audience Award at SXSW and recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, and next with Arrivals. Co-starring Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, Alia Shawkat, and Alexander Ludwig, The Final Girls will open tomorrow. Arrivals, which features Asa Butterfield and Game of Thrones’s Maisie Williams, will begin filming early next year.

The Internet nearly broke earlier this year when Nina Dobrev took to Instagram to announce that she’d be leaving The Vampire Diaries, the show that catapulted her career and fame to next level. But fans aren’t the only ones adjusting to a world without Elena Gilbert. After a six-year run, Dobrev finds herself navigating a life without boundaries.

In an exclusive interview with Who What Wear, Dobrev opens up about transitioning into adulthood, breaking fashion rules, and determining the future of her career.

Sitting in the hair and makeup chair on the Beverly Hills set of her Who What Wear shoot, Dobrev is on the phone with best friend Julianne Hough. The two are gushing over the dancer’s engagement to professional hockey player Brooks Laich, which was revealed just that morning. While the pressure to settle down is common among most people Dobrev’s age, the 26-year-old isn’t in any rush. “I believe in the timing of my life,” she tells us. “I’m so happy for Julianne. I don’t think she could be with anyone more perfect than Brooks, but she wasn’t on a show for six years. I feel like I’m playing catch-up on basic life things that I didn’t get to do working so much.”

Vampire Diaries fans everywhere are having Katerina Petrova flashbacks.

Now starring in the film Final Girls, former Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev appeared on the Late Late Show on Tuesday, where the actress showed off her language skills. Dobrev, who was born in Bulgaria, even taught host James Corden the Bulgarian translation for “bump and grind.” Because what else do you need to know?

From there, Chris Parnell took over and wowed the audience by speaking English … but doing so very quickly with his vocal warm-ups.

Oct 6th: Nina Dobrev explains why she’s the scariest cast member in The Final Girls

Jen | Categories: Interviews, Nina Dobrev, Non TVD Projects | Comments Off on Nina Dobrev explains why she’s the scariest cast member in The Final Girls

In new horror-comedy The Final Girls (out Oct. 9), Nina Dobrev is a high-schooler who — along with characters played by Taissa Farmiga, Alexander Ludwig, Alia Shawkat, and Thomas Middleditch — finds herself trapped in an ’80s-era slasher film called Camp Bloodbath. So, is the ex-star of The Vampire Diaries a fan of the horror genre?

“No,” she says. “I don’t like to pay to be afraid. And for the last few years, I’ve been on a sci-fi horror television show. So, when you’re having time off, I like to watch comedies, or action movies, or things that are the opposite of what I do day-to-day. It’s like a hairdresser — when they’re styling hair all day, when they go home, the last thing they want to see is a hot tool.”

Sep 30th: Nina Dobrev Joins ‘Arrivals’ Pic With Asa Butterfield & Maisie Williams

Jen | Categories: Casting News, Nina Dobrev, Non TVD Projects | Comments Off on Nina Dobrev Joins ‘Arrivals’ Pic With Asa Butterfield & Maisie Williams

EXCLUSIVE: Former The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev is taking another trip to the big screen. Coming off the Toronto Film Festival and SpectreFest screenings of horror comedy The Final Girls, she is now headed for Arrivals, I’ve learned. The actress will join Ender’s Game’s Asa Butterfield and Game Of Thrones’ Maisie Williams in the Peter Hutchings-directed coming-of-age indie.

Dobrev, who left the CW’s Vampire Diaries earlier this year after six seasons, will play American flight attendant Izzy, who is the love interest of Butterfield’s character. The screenplay by Fergal Rock was a 2013 Academy Nicholl semifinalist. The pic, produced by BCDF Pictures and Kalahari Films & Media, is set to start shooting in South Africa this winter.

Butterfield’s Calvin is a hypochondriac college dropout who now works as a baggage handler at Cape Town airport. In a funk, he is pulled into the unconventional bucket list quest of Brit teen Skye, played by GoT’s Williams, who also appears on Doctor Who this season. That team-up helps Calvin to face his deepest fears.

Now off the small screen from playing Elena Gilbert on TVD, Dobrev will be seen October 9 on the big screen in the limited release of The Final Girls. Having debuted at SXSW, the Todd Strauss-Schulson directed film also stars Malin Akerman and Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch. Degrassi: The Next Generation alum Dobrev previously appeared in last year’s Let’s Be Cops, 2012’s The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, and 2009’s Chloe.

Dobrev is repped by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Hansen Jacobson.

Sep 24th: Nina Dobrev ‘can’t wait’ for the new season of The Vampire Diaries

Jen | Categories: Interviews, Nina Dobrev, Non TVD Projects, The Vampire Diaries | Comments Off on Nina Dobrev ‘can’t wait’ for the new season of The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev may have left The Vampire Diaries but the actress says she will definitely tune in when the show returns to The CW on Oct. 8.

“I can’t wait to see what the new season will look like,” she says. “I’ll be watching. I’m very excited for my friends.” One thing the actress won’t be doing, however, is appearing on it. “That chapter is closed, sadly – bittersweet,” she says.

Dobrev announced she was leaving the series back in April, and discussed her exit at the Teen Choice Awards in August. “Just like Elena, I started the show as a young girl, and together we grew up,” Dobrev said during the awards show. “We’ve grown up and over the last six years we’ve become women. These were six incredible years that I’ve had the pleasure of sharing with all of you guys. I wouldn’t be here with you. I wouldn’t be here without Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. They changed my life with this role. Sorry. Three roles. Four roles. It’s hard to keep track these days.”
