When Mark Pedowitz joined the CW five years ago, he made it be known that veteran Supernatural was one of his favorite shows. He got behind the series, upgraded its time slot and Supernatural got a second wind. Heading into Season 11, the series starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki may not be winding down soon.

“Jensen and Jared seem very happy, and I’m thrilled with the creative direction of the show,” Pedowitz said. “Creatively the show is terrific, and if the ratings hold, it would outlast me in this chair.”

As for the long-percolating Supernatural spinoff, “it is still a priority, it just hasn’t happened,” Pedowitz said.

Speaking of spinoffs, The Originals has been closely associated with the show that spawned it, How does the end of The Vampire Diaries bode for its offshoot? “I hope it lives very well on its own; I’m hopeful that we will see a fifth year,” Pedowitz said.

During the executive session, which began with Pedowitz doing a jig on stage to Settle For Me from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, he reenacted the negotiations for Supergirl, which moved from CBS to the CW in May. They went something like this: “Would you like Supergirl? Where do I sign?,” Pedowitz said.

As he noted at the upfronts, ratings expectations for the import are pretty high. “It won’t do as well as it did on CBS but I anticipate it will be out Ni.1 or N.2 show behind The Flash,” he said.

In an early encouraging sign, the CW is airing Supergirl repeats this summer which have gotten traction on the new network.

‘The Originals’ Boss Adapting Vertigo Comic ‘Unfollow’ for ABC

Author: Jen | November 17, 2015 | Comments Off on ‘The Originals’ Boss Adapting Vertigo Comic ‘Unfollow’ for ABC

ABC is expanding its comic book universe.

The broadcast network, already home to Marvel TV, is adapting Vertigo comic book Unfollow, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Written and executive produced by The Originals showrunner Michael Narducci, the drama — which has received a script commitment from the network — hails from Warner Bros. Television. The drama explores what happens when a secretive billionaire makes a global announcement — via the social media platform he invented — that he is terminally ill and has decided to bestow his entire fortune to a seemingly random sample of 140 people from around the world. When one of them turns up dead, the others realize that they are all suspects — and the next potential victim.

The comic, published in November by DC Entertainment imprint Vertigo, is written and created by Rob Williams and Michael Dowling and features a cast of characters including a young black man trying to get by in St. Louis; an Iranian reporter in need of hope; a retired special forces soldier with an odd sense of purpose; and a thrill-seeking heiress.

‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Prepping Dance Drama for The CW (Exclusive)

Author: Jen | | Comments Off on ‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Prepping Dance Drama for The CW (Exclusive)

Filed Under: | Kat Graham, News, Non TVD Projects, TV Series

The CW is poised to explore the world of back-up dancers.

The younger-skewing network is teaming with The Vampire Diaries leading lady Kat Graham for From the Top, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The drama centers on seven ruthlessly determined dancers and their wild lives as they try to navigate the cut-throat world of Hollywood. Graham will executive produce the Warner Bros. Television drama. Marc Cleary (Oh Sit) and Dan Richter (The Fosters) are set to pen the script and serve as supervising producers for the drama, which was sold based on a short teaser presentation. Graham will exec produce. She is not currently attached to star.

Graham, who has starred on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries for seven seasons, started her career as a back-up dancer for the stage and performing in music videos alongside Missy Elliott, Pharrell, Jamie Foxx, Lil’ Bow Wow, John Legend, Nelly, Usher and more. Her debut album, Roxbury Drive, is out now on iTunes. She’s repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and attorney Roger Goff.

From the Top arrives as soap operas have been in high demand this development season as broadcasters look to replicate the success Fox has found with Lee Daniels’ hip-hop Dynasty, Empire.

The news comes hours after former Vampire Diaries writer/EP Michael Narducci, who currently serves as showrunner on spinoff The Originals, sold drama Unfollow to ABC via WBTV.
