Are the residents of Mystic Falls about to make their way to Riverdale?

Probably not, but Julie Plec, co-creator and executive producer of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, is going to be stopping by to direct an episode of the Archie Comics-based series on The CW.

In a stream of tweets that began after she realized she’d picked up a Teen Choice Award on Sunday night, Plec wrote, “And by the way, congrats to #Riverdale for dominating the TV awards. I’ll be there directing an episode for them this fall. Very psyched.”

Jul 20th: The Originals to End After Season 5

Jen | Categories: Julie Plec, News, Season 5, The Originals, TV Series | Comments Off on The Originals to End After Season 5

Prepare to say goodbye to the Mikaelson family: The Originals will come to an end following Season 5, TVLine has learned.

Creator Julie Plec made the announcement on Twitter, via a letter to the fans inviting them “to help us say goodbye to The Originals, which begins shooting its fifth and final season on Monday.

“It’s both a gift and a burden to be able to control the ending of a series,” she continued. “Many shows are not lucky enough to have a hand in deciding when the end has come. Being able to celebrate the completion of The Vampire Diaries was a joyful and deeply emotional ride, a luxury gifted by Mark Pedowitz at The CW and Peter Roth at WBTV, who, as TV fans themselves, know what it means when a fan is able to say goodbye.”

Jul 18th: ‘The Originals’: Steven Kruger Upped To Regular For Season 5

Steven Kruger, a recurring guest star on the CW’s The Originals, has been promoted to series regular on the series for its upcoming Season 5.

The spinoff off The Vampire Diaries aired in midseason and was renewed in May for a fifth season. It had been vulnerable going into its fourth season as there had been discussion whether the spinoff would be able to stand on its own after mothership The Vampire Diaries ended its run.

But The Originals saw respectable ratings business on Friday, where it succeeded TVD. It’s season finale June 23 drew 910,000 total viewers in Live+Same Day and a 0.3/1 rating.

The series follows Klaus Mikaelson and his family in New Orleans. Joseph Morgan stars alongside Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood and Riley Voelkel. It hails from My So-Called Company, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros Television and CBS Television Studios. Julie Plec and Leslie Morgenstein are executive producers.

May 10th: The Originals Renewed for Season 5

Jen | Categories: News, Season 5, The Originals, TV Series | Comments Off on The Originals Renewed for Season 5

The CW has opted to extend the Mikaelsons’ stay in New Orleans, renewing The Originals for a fifth season.

As previously reported, Michael Narducci will not return as showrunner for Season 5. Instead, series creator — and former Vampire Diaries showrunner — Julie Plec will call the shots. Leslie Morgenstern (TVD) will also executive-produce.
The Originals follows, as its title suggests, the world’s first family of vampires — plus a few hybrids and witches thrown in for good measure. Now midway through its fourth season, the show is pitting its heroes against their most powerful foe yet, a mysterious entity known as The Hollow.

Thus far this season The Originals is averaging 980,000 total viewers and a 0.3 rating, up in audience versus Season 3 but down a tick in the demo (where it matches the recently axed Frequency and No Tomorrow and bests Reign and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend).

Jan 14th: The Originals Showrunner Exits; TVD’s Julie Plec to Take Over If Renewed

Jen | Categories: Michael Narducci, News, The Originals, TV Series | Comments Off on The Originals Showrunner Exits; TVD’s Julie Plec to Take Over If Renewed

The Originals showrunner Michael Narducci is exiting the CW series, as he leaves Warner Bros. Television for a new two-year deal at ABC Studios.

Production on The Originals Season 4 (premiering Friday, March 17) has already wrapped. If the series is renewed for Season 5, Julie Plec will return to seize the reins, since The Vampire Diaries will have ended.
Narducci “got an opportunity he couldn’t pass up,” Plec told THR, which broke the news. “He has been a brilliant partner and friend and I’m going to miss him desperately.”

Narducci has been a part of the Vampire Diaries-verse since late Season 2 of the original series, when he served as executive story editor. He was upped to co-producer for Season 3 and has been a full executive producer at The Originals since Season 2.
