Kat Graham Smolders in Nylon Magazine, September 2012
Despite her flawless complexion, smoldering stare, and spunky demeanor, things haven’t always come easy for Kat Graham.
Sitting down for an interview with Nylon’s September 2012 issue, Kat talks being broke before The Vampire Diaries and how she managed to turn her luck around in a really big way.

If you look closely, you’ll be able to spot Kat in teen flicks like 17 Again and The Roommate, but it wasn’t until she landed her role on The Vampire Diaries that everything started to change. “I was so broke when I booked it — I had 86 cents in my bank account. I remember that number specifically.”
While Kat’s personal style is eccentric and bold, she laughs about showing up for her TVD audition wearing overalls and Keds. “I thought that’s how Bonnie dressed,” adding that she even donned a red barrette for an extra innocent touch.
Starring on a hit show, recording in the studio, and shooting dance-heavy music videos, Kat’s certainly keeping herself busy… and she wouldn’t have it any other way. “At the end of the day, what makes me the performer that I am is the fact that I do all three.”
Fans of Kat as an actress may feel she’s devoting too much time to her music, but Kat insists that acting, singing, and dancing all have equal spots in her heart. “It’s almost like having a painting unfinished if I lose one. My goal is to have all three working simultaneously in my art.”

Paul Wesley tries to get topless scenes written out of ‘The Vampire Diaries.’
The 30-year-old actor — who plays male protagonist Stefan Salvatore in the supernatural drama series — doesn’t enjoy being filmed half-naked for the show, and he would prefer it if Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) would be the only star who has to act nude in the programme.
He said: “I try and get those scenes written out! I did a lot in season one, was constantly working out and eating healthily. But I understand some scenes need nudity.
“Ian has to walk around naked non-stop, so I let him carry the baton!”
While Paul enjoys the banter between himself and Ian — who portray vampire brothers in the series — he is glad he doesn’t have a male sibling in real life because he would always be fighting with him over girls.
He added: “No way. I wouldn’t want to have to fight over girls with them. I wouldn’t like the competition.”
For his next role, Paul admits he would be keen to portray an older character.
He explained: “I wouldn’t mind playing a human. As I’m 30, any role where I’m not eternally stuck in the body of a 17 year old, really.”

Ian Somerhalder is known best for his television roles on shows like “Lost” and “The Vampire Diaries”. Ian also spends a lot of his time working with his foundation, Ian Somerhalder Foundation or ISF. The foundation is participating Best Friends Animal Society’s annual Strut Your Mutt event at Park Sans Souci in Lafayette, Louisiana this year. Media Mikes had a chance to ask Ian a few questions about his foundation and also about returning to season 4 of “The Vampire Diaries”.
Mike Gencarelli: Tell us what made your start your foundation, ISF, and how did you come up with the mission of promoting love and interconnectedness?
Ian Somerhalder: After witnessing the devastation of the Oil spill in the Gulf, I had find a way to utilize my voice to make a change. I was not alone. I witnessed the compassion from others, equally as grief stricken, unite in determination. People of all ages gathered together to make a difference. I soon realized the immediate need for a platform for these amazing people to come together to have their voices heard. This launched the IS Foundation. As we come together more and more from all ages and walks of life, we celebrate our shared passions as well as our differences. With an understanding of the ultimate interconnectedness of the universe, we emphasize the unique strengths in all the different voices that make up the ISF Family.

Blonde hair, blue eyes, southern charm. Candice Accola is the definition of all-American… except she’s a vampire.
She’s been in a number of roles throughout the years and if she has yet to catch your eye, you simply haven’t been looking. This 25-year old go-getter plays Caroline on the hit show Vampire Diaries, a character she says is not far from her own personality. “I will use any excuse to host a party which is a very Caroline thing to do,” Accola explains. “Inevitably after four years, Caroline and I will have quirks and cadences and things in common. It’s mostly because we’re both in such a developmental time in our lives.”
In just three short seasons, Vampire devotees have watched Caroline transform from “queen bee bitch of Mystic Falls High” into anything but. Accola, quick to faithfully defend her character, explains, “Her entire life revolved around popularity and whether boys liked her or not. The writers really dug deep within her insecurities and gave reason to her pettiness … by season two, when she turned (into a vampire) she just flourished into such a strong young woman.”
