So where was Ian on May 13th? He was celebrating with his former Lost family, that’s where. He didn’t join his castmates at the Young Hollywood Awards who also had stuff to celebrate on the 13th.

I’ve added 28 HQs to the gallery of Ian at the Lost Celebration. Enjoy!

Interview: Ian Somerhalder’s Career from Model to Vampire

Ian Somerhalder talks about his career beginning with his start as a model up to his role as vampire Damon Salvatore.

On the CW’s breakout hit The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder plays a nearly 170-year-old man who — perhaps unwittingly — became a vampire as a teen. Though the actor’s luck has been indisputably better than that of his character, Damon Salvatore, both have had the same response to the twists in their lives: outright glee.

For Damon, that giddiness manifests itself in the smirky, wanton torment of the people who surround him. In Somerhalder, fortunately, it takes a more gracious form.

“Right now, where I am, doing what I’m doing, it’s exactly where I want to be,” he says.

As Vampire Diaries wraps up its first season (Thursday at 9/8c), look to learn even more about Damon’s tortured past, as he teams up with vampire hunter Alaric to prevent a massacre at Mystic Falls’ annual Founders Day celebration. He won’t be entirely successful, and the subsequent tragedy will change Damon in the second season.

From Somerhalder’s start in modeling to nabbing the lead role in a Bret Easton Ellis film adaptation to a TV hit, he’s always managed to convey joy and pain at once.

In L.J. Smith‘s young-adult horror novels, on which the series is based, Damon is complicated and misunderstood. When he acts out, it’s only because he’s hurting inside. Somerhalder’s version of Damon seems to be having more fun than his literary counterpart. He pounces on his quarry with almost sadistic delight.

The real-life fun started early for the Louisiana native, who started modeling at age 10. After a brief sabbatical, he got an agent at 16 and, within a week, he says, shot a 12-page spread for L’Uomo Vogue with fashion photographer Steven Meisel.

News: Vampire Dairies’ Cast Reacts to the Season Finale

The Vampire Diaries’ cast told MTV News what their reactions were to the season finale.

“It was a bonkers finale — is everyone flipping out?” asked “The Vampire Diaries” star Candice Accola of the MTV News reporter covering the Young Hollywood Awards red carpet last night. To put it bluntly, Candice, YES. We are all flipping out about last night’s crazy “VD” season finale.

If you, like us, haven’t been able to move past the “OMG WTF” stage in your “VD” finale reaction, let the “Vampire Diaries” cast members who attended the Awards put it a little more eloquently.

Nina Dobrev was shocked when she learned what was going to happen in the finale. “I remember sitting in bed reading the script, and when I got towards the end it was so [crazy]. Every single episode of ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ I feel I am always shocked and surprised. … This one being the finale has to exceed all expectations and go above and beyond,” she said. “And I think it does, and it’s crazy and fun, and I had a lot of fun being crazy and doing bad things.”

Her leading man, Paul Wesley, said he was a little intimidated upon reading the finale script. “Well, I was like, ‘Whoa, this a huge endeavor,’ ” he said. “The last four pages … really take the audience on a little bit of a thrill ride. I mean, the whole thing’s good, but the way it ends is kind of incredible.”

Don’t think we were able to get any answers out of the gang as to what’s in store for next season — they don’t know what is going to happen next season either, considering show masterminds Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec have just barely finished this season.

When asked if she knows whether Tyler’s going to end up a werewolf, as he is in the books, Candice played coy. “I plead the Fifth. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Who knows? I don’t know,” she said. She doesn’t know the fate of her character, Caroline, either. “I don’t know. This is going to be such a pain in the butt for you ’cause I don’t know. There is a car crash that happens, but I really don’t know the outcome of it.”

In the end, the stars seemed very grateful to be a part of the show. “There’s a bunch of cliffhangers and surreal, strange things that occur in this last episode,” Steven McQueen said. “I think we all took it as a blessing to be able to play these strange situations that can never occur in real life and just feel honored.”

What do you think about the cast reaction to the finale? Are you bummed that we won’t find out what happens next until September?

Nina Dobrev: What She Thinks of Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder

Vampire Dairies’ Nina Dobrev talks to MTV News about what she thinks of her fellow cast members, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder.

It’s no secret that the cast of “Vampire Diaries,” gets along pretty well. In fact, a few of the show’s actors have told us that they’re bffs on set and off. So, when Nina Dobrev dropped by MTV News last week, we had to ask her whether the same held true for her and the two boys she films with most often — Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder.

“They are just great guys to be around,” she gushed. “It’s awesome that I get paid to hang with these two guys and work with them and the rest of the cast.” Now, that’s what we love to hear!

Of course, once we learned how close she was to Paul and Ian, we couldn’t help but pick her brain a little on on what both guys are like when they’re not in character.

“Ian and Paul are very different and similar in many ways,” she said. “I think that when people start hanging around each other, they start to pick on on each other’s quirks and taste in music, apparently.”

Turns out that Ian is quite the class clown, while Paul has more in common than his alter-ego, Stefan, then we would have thought. “Ian’s the jokester, the prankster, the guy who likes to talk and hang out and just have a good time,” Nina reported. Note: this only makes us heart him more than we already did.

Paul, however, has a very different approach when the camera’s pointed at him. “It’s funny because when Paul’s on set, he’s very serious, he’s very focused. He’s a lot like his character. He’s kind of method a little bit in some ways,” she said. “But then, as soon as he leaves the set, he has this switch and he’s this cool, fun — not that he’s not cool on set, it’s just he lets loose a little more.” In other words, to quote Hannah Montana, he’s got best of both worlds.

Of course, while they might have their differences, Nina was quick to point out that they’ve got one key thing in common. “They are both incredible and awesome and professional and talented,” she said. We couldn’t agree more, although we’d probably add very handsome to that list.

What do you think about Ian and Paul’s off-set personalities? Do they sound anything like the characters they play?

News: Actor Ian Somerhalder Models for GQ

Author: Linda | April 21, 2010 | Comments Off on News: Actor Ian Somerhalder Models for GQ

Filed Under: | Ian Somerhalder, News

GQ magazine had Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder model the best brightly colored shirts of Spring 2010 in an eight page photo spread.  It appears in their May issue.

As bittersweet as the impending Lost finale has to be for all concerned, it’s bitter sweeter for Ian Somerhalder. As Flight 815 survivor Boone Carlyle, he brooded, nursed a weird crush on his stepsister, then became the first of the gang to die. Somerhalder says J. J. Abrams picked the right moment to tell him he’d been killed off: “I was in wine country, man, with a beautiful girl. I said to J.J., ‘Your timing is impeccable. If I’d been at a Denny’s I would have started crying.’ I downed a couple bottles of Pinot and I was set.” Things have worked out okay for Somerhalder—he may play Boone in at least one more “flash-sideways” this month before Lost wraps up, and he’s now drinking fine reds on the regular as a 150-year-old undead hunk on the CW’s Vampire Diaries.
