Feb 6th: Kevin Williamson Joins CW’s ‘Secret Circle’, ‘Vampire Diaries’ Companion Show On Hold

Tracey | Categories: Exclusive, Kevin Williamson, Non TVD Projects, The Vampire Diaries | Comments Off on Kevin Williamson Joins CW’s ‘Secret Circle’, ‘Vampire Diaries’ Companion Show On Hold

EXCLUSIVE: First the bad news: Kevin Williamson’s potentialcompanion series to Vampire Diariesis not happening, at least for now.The Vampire Diaries co-creator Williamson has notified the CW that his busy schedule on Diaries, which he is executive producing with fellow co-creator Julie Plec, has not allowed him to focus on fleshing out and writing the new project, about a group of people who investigate paranormal happenings.

Now the great news. Williamson has come onboard another CW drama project, Secret Circle, which is based on a three-book series from The Vampire Diaries author L.J. Smith. It centers on a California teen who moves to her mom’s hometown of New Salem and discovers that she is a witch. To complete the reunion, the project hails from Alloy Entertainment and WBTV, the companies behind Diaries. It was first set at the CW in October with Angel alums Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain as executive producers and Andrew Miller as writer/exec producer. Williamson is now working on the script and serving as an executive producer on the project, which, with its auspices, has emerged as a strong contender for a pilot pickup. Just like with the potential Diaries companion, on which there was talk about Plec joining Williamson, while not currently attached to Secret Circle, Plec could come on board in the future.

Jan 28th: FROM THE SET: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Matt Davis (Alaric) from The Vampire Diaries

Natalie | Categories: Exclusive, Matt Davis, News, Sara Canning, The Vampire Diaries | Comments Off on FROM THE SET: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Matt Davis (Alaric) from The Vampire Diaries

The T.V Chick has posted a fabulous interview with the very lovely Matt Davis on her website, Some very original questions… Here’s a little peak, but be sure to visit her site to check out the rest of the article

Last night, The Vampire Diaries made its triumphant return. I am so glad it’s back, as heartbreaking as “The Descent” was. It left a lot of questions in my mind: we know vampires can control dreams but did we know Damon was capable, was Jules holding out and there is a way to cure vampire bites, and where the heck is Isobel? Alaric was back in last night’s episode, getting into the mix a little bit by helping Stefan (possibly) contact Isobel. Instead, Uncle John returns and we have no idea what he wants. I recently had the chance to visit the set of the show in Atlanta, where I spoke with Matt Davis (who plays Alaric). He talked about what he wants to see from Alaric going forward, his relationship with Jenna, and whether he might team up with the vampires.

So you’ve really come a long way from playing one of my favorites Warner on Legally Blonde. What do you like most about playing Alaric?
I like playing Alaric because of his relationships. I love working with Ian and his character and our banter and I love that he’s not a supernatural figure. He’s just a man and he’s a teacher and he’s been thrust into this supernatural circumstance. And I like the elements of action behind him. He makes his own weapons, and he’s his own investigator and he’s sort of paired up with Stefan and Damon. And Damon in particular who’s the bad guy you love to — he’s not really the bad guy, he’s just sort of amoral (laughs). He’s constantly challenging Alaric in that aspect. But for those reasons, I enjoy playing Alaric. And his name.

Jan 21st: Exclusive Interview: Daniel Gillies Talks Elijah and His Pick for Klaus Role

Linda | Categories: Exclusive, Season 2, The Vampire Diaries, TV Series | Comments Off on Exclusive Interview: Daniel Gillies Talks Elijah and His Pick for Klaus Role

The Vampire Diaries’ Daniel Gillies recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly in depth about his character Elijah and his  possible future interaction with Jenna, who he thinks should play Klaus and what Elijah thinks of Damon!

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: All you really knew about Elijah when you auditioned was that he was an older vampire and incredibly dangerous. What did you bring to the character?
DANIEL GILLIES:
I didn’t want him to sound like an American. I remember thinking, I know that this guy’s been living in the States for a couple hundred years, but he’s probably somebody who travels to Europe frequently, probably speaks 10 or 12 languages, including some extinct languages. I wanted him to sound a little bit like Kelsey Grammer [laughs], if that makes any sense. I wanted him to sound like old money from the United States, because I also thought that it lent a weight and, dare I say, dignity to his character, without being too foppish or overly gentrified. I thought there would be a danger in him the more elegant he was. I didn’t see him as a grimacing, arch, mustache-twirling guy ever. I think that’s how some people might have seen him, and I think that was a mistake. I always liked those men who didn’t really do terribly much, but did an enormous amount of damage. He’s much more economical than most. I like the idea that he had economy of movement, of words, of action, of everything.

Dec 23rd: In Defense of Matt Donovan (Or, how to be awesome without needing magical jewelry)

Tracey | Categories: Exclusive, Season 2, TV Series, Zach Roerig | 1 Comment

Hey, “Vampire Diaries” fans — we need to talk.

Listen, I really value our relationship. I travel all over the country stalkingchasing down the cast and creators of your favorite show to get you the scoop you’re fiending for, and in return, you guys keep me endlessly entertained with your comments and tweets and occasional profanity-ridden battles over who is going to end up with who. It’s all very mutually beneficial.

But something’s been bugging me, and I just can’t bite my tongue any longer. Recently, there’s been some negative energy toward my favorite character, the adorably clueless Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig).

Matty made #1 on a certain list of the worst things about “The Vampire Diaries,” and a reviewer who has been mixing haterade with his morning coffee compared the kid to “a pile of mashed potatoes.” And okay, maybe the mashed potatoes thing was sort of hilarious, but that doesn’t make it any less wrong.

Dec 11th: ‘Vampire Diaries’ exclusive: Kevin Williamson talks his potential companion series that’s ‘full of scary, horrible murder and surprises’

Tracey | Categories: Exclusive, Julie Plec, Kevin Williamson, Non TVD Projects | Comments Off on ‘Vampire Diaries’ exclusive: Kevin Williamson talks his potential companion series that’s ‘full of scary, horrible murder and surprises’

If you recently heard the potential companion series to The Vampire Diaries exec producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec (pictured) are in the early stages of developing described as “The X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” you may be imagining Alaric (Matt Davis) teaching history at a new high school. “That’s exactly what the show is not,” Williamson tells EW on the latest edition of the TV Insiders podcast, with a laugh. “That was the wrong characterization. I was like, ‘What is Buffy meets The X-Files?’ They’re completely at odds tonally. It’s neither. It’s set on a college campus. There’s a little bit of some paranormal investigation involved, but it’s more about the characters. It’s more about what Julie and I like to do, which is create a world of people. A young girl goes to college, and it turns out there’s a lot more going on.”

That’s all he wants to give away for now. “Warner Bros. doesn’t like us to talk about shows that may never happen,” he says, laughing again. “We don’t know if we’ll get it written in time, or if this will be for this year, next year…. But it’s just something we’re both very passionate about because we’ve got this whole world and this whole sort of mythology about this girl and this journey that she takes. It’s full of scary, horrible murder and surprises, and all the twists and turns that we love to do, but once again it is a story about epic love. That’s what we’re about here at The Vampire Diaries. And that’s sort of why you call it a ‘companion piece,’ is because you will see those similarities in the show. You know, a bunch of fun characters that you can visit every week and watch them go through all these scary, twisty story lines, but it all leads to some greater story about epic and tragic love.”
