“Before I wrote music, I wrote a lot of poetry. It became a vessel for me to get that out there, and with all of my favourite songwriters like Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits – if you just read their lyrics, they stand alone as poetry. I would like to think that mine would as well.”
I am sitting opposite Michael Malarkey on a rugged blue picnic bench. It has been a particularly sunny week in Vancouver, allowing us to grab a seat outside The Media Club where Malarkey will be performing later this evening. Best known for his portrayal of bloodthirsty vampire Enzo on the CW’s The Vampire Diaries, the actor is also a musician at heart, having released his debut EP, Feed the Flames, in 2014. The Permanent Rain Press was given the opportunity to chat with Malarkey about his musical beginnings, theatre, and his expectations for Enzo in Season 7 of the hit CW series.
